Ubi crustulam ibi gaudium est.
By all means think me a miserable git of a heathen, but it's still November FFS. Enough of Xmas jingles, carols, & Jesus already.
It totally undermines the brief midwinter* holiday itself.

Progress after 7 bedtimes: 173/445pp
A slow reader (internalised voice artists (fiction), Radio 4 announcer (non-fiction)), last night was particularly tense as 3 Roman legions led by Publius Quinctilius Varus massacred by Germanic tribes at the Teutoburg Pass.
Bit of a setback.

Next off the shelf is🥁
Dynasty - The Rise and Fall of the House of Caesar, by Tom Holland (2015). Picks up where Rubicon (2003) left off. Featuring Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero. Expect violence & scenes of a sexual nature. A 24 hour help line is available, blah, blah, blah...

Well, let me tell you... I bought zero 'bargains' on Black Friday. Furthermore, I expect to purchase zero 'bargains' on Grey Saturday as well.

Growth and security at the forefront in UK funding boost for European Space Agency.
"Evaluation shows that every £1 invested in ESA returns £7.49 in direct benefits to the UK economy."
That's one (relatively) small investment, one giant return for Britkind. 🔭🧪🚀

A month ago I 'binned' a novel by Japanese crime writer Seichi Yokomizo.
Yesterday in Oxford I spotted this new Penguin Modern Classics edition of (IMO) a much more interesting Japanese writer, Seichō Matsumoto - A Quiet Place (1971).
Not that I need any more books just now, but...

This morning I woke up with the line "Wake up, stand up, strut your funky stuff, sure enough", which I have now Googled.
Apparently it's the lyric of a 1979 hit by an American disco group called Frantique.🤣
This, surely, is a sign of early onset dementia.

I've just finished S.5 of Slow Horses (Apple TV). IMO it's the most entertaining yet. Furthermore, I am prepared to wrestle anyone who disagrees with me.
I also enjoyed the nod to Paddington Bear. Child & parent on street where Claude Whelan lives. Yeah, you're just have to watch ep6 again!)
