Last Saturday Carleton held their BPAPM Case Competition where they looked at the Bank Street Study!

It was amazing being part of the process, seeing all of the wonderful ideas from the students, and seeing them present it in a room filled with friends, family, and even some city Councillors!

The future is bright!
It was a pleasure to host a workshop on the Bank Street Study for Carleton students of BPAPM's case competition! They had some wonderful questions and engagement with the topic.

Local politics has a huge impact on our everyday lives, so it's great to see youth taking an interest in it!

Dangerous policies will lead to dangerous outcomes. Completely backwards policies when looking at what the data supports.
It is almost like we said exactly this would happen...

How many more injuries and deaths on our roads do we need?

These aren't just needed in front of schools, all of our residents deserve safety, and children don't only walk in front of schools!

Pretty much sums it up. In no other part of our lives would this make sense, yet it's a regular occurrence in how we plan our cities.

The scary thing is that this pipe is only from 1959 and failed prematurely, a growing trend. There are still pipes downtown from the 1870s to be replaced. We currently replace about 20km of pipe each year, but we laid down 1800km of pipe in the 50s and 60s. 5X our current replacement rate.

We're unfortunately in for a looooot of these unless we manage to get our city finances in order.

Building more efficiently will help ensure the infrastructure we have is kept in good condition, helping our citizens avoid disasters like these!
I’m very sympathetic for the residents in my colleague’s ward. River Ward has experienced a lot of water main breaks since the Fall, as has my own ward (Knoxdale-Merivale). There’s a lot of aging infrastructure in our wards, much of it overdue for replacement.
Watermain break...

Near 60 Forest Hill Ave (between Prince of Wales and the cul-de-sac)
Local households may experience interruptions in water service.
Water service is expected to be restored by 6am, Friday morning.

These traffic cameras are a great tool to see how inefficient cars are on Bank Street, and how much extra traffic parking adds.

This single intersection is clogged with a total of what is probably 15-20 people in cars. All while a bus with easily over 2x that sits stuck in traffic.

We've worked together with our partners at the Peoples Official Plan coalition to touch on a very important aspect of our yearly budget process, that of affordability.

We strongly recommend reading the letter, and providing your thoughts to your councillor!

You would think the mayor was being ironic here when he says that we can't acquiesce to demands of wealthy sports owners, right before he says we need to be careful we don't lose the other wealthy sports owners in the same stadium 🤣🤣

Every time we choose to subsidize parking we make other choices less attractive. Why would I walk, bike, or take the bus when there's an abundance of parking at every stop?

This leads to people thinking that cars are the best choice, but they've just been subsidized the most.
Here's some more confirmation about how expensive providing parking is from questions yesterday.

"It costs more to build than what we could get from market leases going forward. And that's average across the city, that's not just us. It's just any parking is not profitable."

This is a choice.

Some polling was done for Lansdowne 2.0, lo and behold the top issue for people polled was improving transportation to Lansdowne. What better way to provide better access to Lansdowne than safe, dedicated 24/7 bus lanes?

The irony of Mayor Sutcliffe calling out “myths” over his version of “facts” is something to behold. Is it a fact that “Lansdowne 2.0 will generate revenues that *will* cover 69% of the total investment”? Or is that optimism bias? Not that I’m trying to spread misinformation here.
Lansdowne 2.0 is a smart, responsible investment for Ottawa. Let’s keep moving forward. https://marksutcliffe.ca/events/2025/10/lansdowne-more-for-less

"And certainly the dedicated bus lane areas at Bank and Fifth are certainly going to help move traffic through the Glebe as well". We couldn't have said it better ourselves Darrell! Now why only restrict this to event days? Traffic on Bank Street is sub-optimal almost every day.

Today at the #lansdowne 2.0 discussion, Darrell Cox, the Glebe BIA representative, spoke about how they think dedicated bus lanes would be amazing for the project, and how it'd improve getting people to Lansdowne events. Glad to hear such support from the Glebe BIA on how bus lanes improve the area!

(4/4) The only solution to these problems is by fast and efficient modes of transportation, bus lanes would fix so many of the issues for getting people to here. We CANNOT fix this with cars
