Hi to all my new (and old) followers!

I am Mark and I have been doing #VR, #AR and #MR stuff since 2012.

Just shipped Starship Home for #MetaQuest3S, but you might know me from "SUPERHOT VR", a Tilt Five launch title called "Mark's Magnificent Marble Maze" or my Quest launch title "Gravity Lab"

Games for me are a form of creative expression and with the whole genAI thing, I really don't know where this will lead creativity as a whole.
My hope is that it could be a great tool, but it also could be the end for most of us. And I swing wildly between the two from moment to moment.

As a kid, I always thought Australia was just a flat, hot desert. Turns out it has some mountains too

Any NZ devs here attending #NZGDC? I'm going and would love to hang out with Kiwi #XR devs.

Also, come to my talk 🙂

"Age verification" laws are actually "upload your ID or get your face scanned to access every website, ending anonymity and associating your identity with everything you do online" laws and if more people understood that they would not be down for this authoritarian nonsense

The led frame itself is made out of four ws2812b panels, a 3d printed grid and a sheet of clear poly carbonate that I spray painted with privacy frost effect paint. The effect is hard to capture, but looks a bit like neon tubes if they were pixels. There is a warm glow and brighter middle.

And it's a bit of a wood working/machining project as well. I used my CNC to build the frames and cover plates. Last pic is the mini PC powering it

The first game I made for it is a 2 player dungeon crawler where you need to collect all rainbows. One player walks, the other shoots and each time you pickup a rainbow, your controls switch over.
Also notice the ammo counter on the arcade stick itself, also ws2812b leds (this time over serial)

My biggest issue was to drive it at a high enough frame rate. Serial was too slow, so now it uses UDP packets.

It's really hard to capture how saturated and bright that led frame is. It's made out of four 16x16 ws2812b panels, each can draw up to 70W (but I limited it to a quarter).

Took a week off and built a new addition to the kids play room / library.
Custom made light frame and arcade stick that runs games on a 32x32 grid, powered by an ESP8266, Arduino Nano and a mini PC. When not in use, it doubles as wall art (folder of gifs) or clock.

Built a bookshelf with some recessed cubbies to create stairs for the kid. Before it was just a boring wardrobe
