"spared"

as if getting snowed in were a bad thing
Once again, Toronto is magically spared a big [4 letter word that begins with S and ends with NOW] storm.

The orange parts are 40 to 70cm of snow.

Ich kreire ein Eau de Toilette, das nach verbranntem Tannenbaum, billigem Glühwein und enttäuschten Erwartungen duftet.

Eau du Fröhliche.

ontario: best we can do is street signs so big they fully obscure schoolchildren

narrator: no, they do not
It really has been interesting the last while to see Doug Ford's outbursts. The true Ford. From "get a job" to "audit orgs that might support left wing causes". The authoritarian belligerent bully that had no staff to muzzle him in City Hall days is still there. Does Ontario see? Do they care?

none of these mention two things
- It took us almost 20 years to make the CF-18 a cold weather plane. Right now the F-35 keeps crashing in Alaska due to cold.
- The Gripen doesn’t have an off switch if the US wants to ground our planes

As part of the Raptors' 8-game win streak, the team posts a locker room victory photo after each game, and my favourite ongoing bit is how Gradey Dick hits the exact same tough-guy pose in the same spot in all of them

It's that off-centre smaller red circle at the start which gets me. Everything else follows logically and just needs a bit of thought, but that one's indistinguishable from witchcraft.

"Playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?!"

On November 25, 2001, after a lackluster five turnover plagued loss to the San Francisco 49ers that dropped the Colts to 4–6, a frustrated Indianapolis head coach Jim Mora addressed the media.

Any political “leader” still selling the obviously false choice between #ClimateAction and “the economy” is just reminding us that they clearly don’t understand either the climate crisis OR the economy.

Or they’re cynically hope that WE don’t understand the difference.

Or both.

70 years ago The Conservative Government of Leslie Frost "Old Man Ontario" instituted the Conservation Authorities Act as a response to the devastation of Hurricane Hazel. Now in the face of increased climate disasters Doug Ford is dismantling it.

Maybe I'm missing an important point, but the Ford gov's claim that "Landlords will lower rents if they can rent out more of their properties now that we've given them more power over tenants" feels like something you'd say if you'd never literally never heard of capitalism before in your life.

I walked along a few kms of College St this morning before 9am. Day care drop then carried on. Watched the people push and cycle their kids around, some dad on a cargo bike waved & said hi to some tweens walking in front of me. All very Sesame Street.

And this gov't has contempt for it all.
A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

If you like classic footage of Toronto streetcars, you'll like this link. This is some classic footage Richard Glaze shot of the Queen streetcar in snow between 1969 and 1976. I love how it all came together. You can practically hear the snow shushing the city. Check it out: youtu.be/RPoeU01rP28
