Recently sang in Wuppertal and can confirm that the Schwebebahn is all it is cracked up to be, railway nerd heaven! This article also features the opulent art nouveau Stadthalle 📸, which is where we are performing our Ring cycle with the Sinfonieorchester 🤓

The unsung German city with the world’s most extraordinary train
It is 125 years since the Wuppertal Schwebebahn, the oldest suspension railway, first set off. Today it still fascinates visitors to this Rhineland city

Striking description of hiking alone at night in this, Sand's fictionalized epistolary account of her alpine Grand Tour. I wonder whether it is based on actual experience or desire - and am sad about how it registers as a transgressive, notable thing for a solo woman traveller, even 200 years later

Last week's Wagner recital, or: joy, and risk 🪽
Risk, because @twgfaulkner.bsky.social & I both debuted so much new repertoire : Erda, Marke, Fricka, Wotan, Waltraute, Pogner...
Joy, because the risk paid off and we shared a special evening with a wildly supportive audience in our Wahlheimat 💜

This coming Sunday, with @twgfaulkner.bsky.social we get to explore a wonderful selection of Wagner, Verdi, and Strauss-dysfunctional married couple Fricka and Wotan included! And, special delight, we get to debut this programme in our hometown, just outside Frankfurt. We'd love to see you there!

Always after a good singing lesson, I'll want to go straight to practice instead of listening back first but I'll then heed the smarter angel on my shoulder, listen, and realize that what I took away is a mere 10% of the l e a r n i n g s 🔁 and repeat all over again next time...

Swiss Easter is intense. Tag urself, are you *checks notes* Häsli-Potter? The "Beer is my yoga" (what) Bunny? "I am Bunough" 🫠 Or my personal favourite, ChatGPT Bunny, whose t-shirt proclaims "I'm smarter than I look" 💀 so much to unpack here

My #1 top tip for Paris, after having spent a few weeks visiting my husband here, is: make sure you have somewhere nice to stay because you WILL get food poisoning and have to spend quality time stuck inside staring at the walls of your Parisian abode 😵

Lovely venue for Messiah this past weekend 🩵 Since it was my first, it was a beautiful reminder of how rewarding it can be to approach very well known music with fresh ears - how often do we stop really listening to something we think we know too well?

Thinking about the end of Walküre last night when cast & crew gathered in the wings all still, quietly transfixed by Wotans Abschied. A beautiful near-ritual appreciation, having been a part of creating, and now witnessing, magic. Opera is impossible and also perfect sometimes

Back at #operleipzig for Walküre, popped by Leipzig's beautiful Marktplatz early before our 10am rehearsal and was greeted by the verdant bouquets of kale that grace every German market this time of year (what glorious spongy fronds) (happy to be here) 🌞
