Tragically one of those internet intellectuals
I was for a thing researching the Hutch-Kinahan gang feud and says absolutely nothing good about Ireland's media that the only sources that seem reliably cover it at least online are the thrash Tabloids.

Judging from Twitter every single 2010 era 'Orange Book Liberal' will be voting for Farage in 2029. Am I surprised by this? No, I can't say I am.

I think Ireland should do more defence wise but in addition to his military career, Cathal Berry was an elected representative and not remotely a neutral observer.
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

An #FTEdit 🧵 on why this determinedly neutral nation is Europe's weak link 👇

The people who think Russia are going to attack Ireland are like the least Nationalist people in the country.
A key character trait of nationalists is that they all think everyone else wants the wee bit of land they’re standing on.

"How dare Westminster take away my rights" say people who spent a decades demanding that Westminster be given full "take away people's rights" power - and often still campaigning for that, regardless.

Thing that gets me is when you see people calling people like this “eugenicists” and I’m like no lads, eugenicists were people in the grip of a horrific ideology who wanted to make the world better and were therefore unashamed of who they were. These people? They aren’t that. They are Just Cunts.

Wrote about this here. The "anomaly" of the divergence between hard indicators of economic performance and soft indicators of sentiment disappears once if you include higher interest rates, leading to higher mortgage and car payments, in inflation. www.economist.com/finance-and-...

Corbyn, Biden and the return of Inflation brought a lot of feelings of insecurity among the commentariat and among many of the wider population especially the older, as if the repressed (the 70s) had inexplicably returned somehow and needed to be banished back to its cave.

The argument here - if we can dignify it as such - is that if America did not have such high moral standards (such as for 'human rights') and instead just embraced amoral deal making and cynical 'realism', there would be less wars.
