Monitoring developments related to an attack targeting National Guard in DC. Violence of all shapes and forms is unacceptable.

National Guard don’t decide their deployment—they serve our country.

My heart breaks, and I pray for them, their families, and loved ones on the eve of Thanksgiving.

West Virginia governor Patrick Morrissey, who was eager to deploy state guardsmen to DC, says the two who were shot were from the WV guard. First he said one died, now potentially walking that back.
Now this update:: We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information.

We are monitoring the situation in St. Paul and working to understand what unfolded. We received no heads up from federal authorities on this operation.

While we are always willing to work together on public safety, that is clearly not what this chaotic situation was about.

Not the first turkeys he’s pardoned this year.
President Donald Trump plans to bestow ceremonial pardons on Tuesday on two turkeys named Waddle and Gobble. He will then fly to his private Florida resort on Tuesday to celebrate Thanksgiving. https://to.pbs.org/4ohuCva

Trump wasn’t involved, couldn’t have known, isn’t at fault for the awful Ukraine plan negotiated by his envoy, VP, and son in law?

He’s the president! And the plan fits his longrunning Putin-sympathetic stance!

I second @phillipspobrien.bsky.social. Making excuses for Trump is insane and harmful.
Just sent out this free piece. When the stories of the 28-point plan were first written, too many people went into overdrive to try and make excuses for Trump (He was not informed! He was not involved!). open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

European officials hoped they’d won over Donald Trump after a series of high-level meetings aimed at convincing him to pull back from a confrontation over Ukraine and an all-out trade war.

But it’s never long before the American president changes his mind.

We really do have two different kinds of law now: District Court law (aka the law), and Supreme Court "law" (aka the U.S. House of Lords upholding Trump's personalist regime)
I don’t know what the Supreme Court will do, but I am confident that at the District Court level it is still the case that the Pentagon cannot recall a sitting US Senator to active duty in order to court martial him for something he said. Article 1, Section 6, among other constitutional provisions.

Comey and James cases dismissed. Because Lindsey Halligan.

No legitimate prosecutor would manufacture charges against Trump’s political enemies, and one willing to failed.

Authoritarian abuses don’t work without capable personnel. Or much deeper corruption of the courts, which they don’t have.
NEWS: The criminal cases against James Comey and Letitia James are gone. A federal judge ruled that the appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the lead prosecutor was illegal.

DOJ could try again, but there are other headwinds.

Imagine trying to settle a property dispute by talking only to the intruder. That's the logic here. The Trump/Putin proposal is an attempt to impose terms on a country under attack leaving the defending nation out of the room. Peace cannot be done to Ukraine; it must be done with Ukraine.
