In my public television special “The Story of Fascism in Europe” (www.ricksteves.com/fascism), we learn from Europeans whose families lived through fascism that a strong democracy requires vigilant and engaged citizens. We are all participants, we are all responsible, and freedom isn’t guaranteed.

Last night I watched Rick Steves's 2018 PBS documentary on the rise and fall of fascism in Europe. I was struck by the number of 20th century fascist tactics that have have been adopted by the US government since January 2025. Lebensraum, anyone?

Naming someone is not doxxing. They aren’t undercover. They aren’t intelligence agents overseas. This is outrageous - we are supposed to be a free Republic and these people want an authoritarian police state. Lawsuits should be filed & ranking Dems in Congress should act.

I was born toward the end of WWII and grew up knowing a lot of refugees. Remember this rule of thumb for surviving eras of unrest:

Absolutely despicable!
This is completely fucking unacceptable. Shut this terrorist government down until it stops brutalizing its own citizens.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.
I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.
