More than an hour after it happened, Orion Kerkering went back to the dugout. He was alone. Then, someone put his arm around him. The Phillies shared a collective pain because it felt like more than a season had just ended. Story: www.nytimes.com/athletic/670...
Phillies share the pain after Orion Kerkering’s error leads to crushing elimination loss
Inside the clubhouse, there was shock, anger, concern for the young reliever — and a sense that something more than a season had ended.

Dodgers 2, Phillies 1 (F/11). Orion Kerkering had a play at first. He went home instead. The season is over after an insane game. Oh man.

Jesús Luzardo is warming up. He's probably pitching the 10th.

That was Jhoan Duran's first career bases-loaded walk. The game is tied. Roki Sasaki is entering in the eighth.

Nick Castellanos delivers the huge hit. The Phillies are nine outs from another game at Citizens Bank Park. Sánchez will begin the seventh.

Cris Sánchez is at 80 through six scoreless. Last two have been stressful. Phillies had Kerkering throwing in the sixth, but this is probably still Sánchez. Also, Luzardo is down in the bullpen.

A lot to unpack, especially about the eighth inning of Game 3 and how it relates to Game 4. New pod.

It ended up not mattering, but we can still talk about it. The timer violation on Brandon Marsh with two outs and bases loaded after an intentional walk in fifth inning was insane. “There should be a little bit of feel there.”

There was no big speech to make. The manager just asked his players not to think of the enormity of it all. “Don’t try harder. Trust harder.”

Then, with one swing, they remembered. The Phillies are still alive: www.nytimes.com/athletic/670...

Phillies 8, Dodgers 2. Aaron Nola and Ranger Suárez combined for seven innings of one-run ball. Kyle Schwarber homered twice. Phillies scored their most runs in a postseason game since G2 2023 NLCS. There will be a Game 4, Thursday at 6:08 p.m.

Dodgers went into punt formation and Phillies will avoid having to use Jhoan Duran. Feels somewhat significant.

Handshakes for Ranger Suárez. The Nola-Suárez plan worked to perfection. One run in seven innings. They're going to try for six outs from Duran.

Jhoan Duran is warming up as the bottom of the seventh inning begins. The Phillies hold a tenuous two-run lead.

Ranger Suárez is warming up. Figure he gets Ohtani's second AB.
mattgelb.bsky.social
Tanner Banks is warming up in the first inning.

No Harrison Bader in the Game 3 lineup. Same situation; he could pinch-hit.

The Phillies, on the brink of elimination, are fighting to play another day and get back to their home clubhouse this weekend.

On locker room dynamics, the relationships built and how quickly things could change should the Phillies lose in Los Angeles:
