This has got be some of the worst negligence I’ve ever seen in sport. Eli Kotoa knocked unconscious in the WARM UP, allowed to play and sustain multiple brain injuries that lead to emergency surgery.

Only since I’ve started doing work on brain injury and sport have I been called an activist (multiple times), which tells me I’m finally doing something worthwhile with my research time, and I’m probably doing it right.

I don’t know why more stand up comedians don’t just take up university lecturing. It’s basically crowd work with references.

THREE IN A ROW! It’s an absolutely massive win on the road for the Iron as we come from behind to take all three points. Howe, Rose and Whitehall with the goals.

🧵New bit from me that’s been a nice side quest to develop my interviewing skills while exploring something I’m interested in, as a podcaster myself.

RUNIT is absolutely shameful. Society has never been more aware of the brain injury risks related to contact sport. CTE is mainstream terminology.

RUNIT have taken the (well-evidenced) most dangerous part of a dangerous sport and made it a sport itself.

Someone will die from this.
"Pearce also has grave concerns about contestants being asked to endure multiple collisions – in training and elimination events, and in the case of Papali’i, 14 high-force impacts in the course of the evening"

Some epistemology from me & @drcrmatthews.bsky.social

This wasn’t really about biobanding or parents understanding of it, this was more about the critique of the tools typically used to “measure” such understanding.

Fucking hell, how hard is it.

Tax. The. Rich.
📢 The UK government is talking about making HUGE cuts to disabled people’s social security.

Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger, and these cuts risk pushing even more people to food banks.

I have finally got hold of images from an MRI of my brain from last year!

Any suggestions of who may be willing to look at it in relation to brain injury?

@alanpearcephd.bsky.social any suggestions?

Sport and exercise science isn't in a dire state because of replication concerns alone... It's the whole cadre of naïve empiricism, reliance on induction ("evidence based"), no or vague theory, flimsy predictions, weak use of null hypothesis testing (not just NP testing), the list goes on.
