A more defensible claim is that comparing religious and secular forms of anti-LGBT rhetoric reveals the extent to which the "secular" in the anglosphere is just "white protestant christianity" with the serial numbers filed off 😅
Friend forwarded me a gender studies paper on GC activism, which claims that LGBT-hate was more motivated by religious bigotry in the past but in the modern era is more grounded in secular reasoning, and wow how absolutely and hilariously wrong on both counts
