Please let all your friends who aren't paying attention know that ICE is being used to take from us every amendment in the Bill of Rights, including the First. www.msn.com/en-us/news/o...

The New York Times publishes a handy guide to which federal forces are terrorizing us at any moment. This is America, 2025.

Watch this.

Open your eyes to this brutality.

ICE beats up, drags & abducts this disabled visually impaired man.

Now share this.

Everyone must see the brutality of this administration & ask themselves what they are doing to push back.

You have power.

Even sharing this video exerts that power.
*I went to Catholic school and I vividly remember a sidebar in my 4th-grade textbook that described International Communism as being Satan's parody of Christ's church on Earth.

Sounds bizarre, but Jesus saying "sell all you possess, give the money to the poor, and come follow me" is communistic.
I'm most definitely not a historian, but judging from my memories of what I was taught in 4th, 8th, and 12th grade American History* (in 1965, 1969, 1973) Trump Administration 2.0 blows Teapot Dome and the malfeasance under Grant (but not Grant himself, except for bad management) out of the water.

After Biden convinced the senate to pass a bipartisan border bill in 2024, Trump ordered Speaker Mike Johnson not to bring it to the floor because he feared it would help Biden win.

Trump's current border policy is "deport all the brown people."

Bernie Sanders thinks that's better.

Fuck Bernie.
I just/finally hooked up an S-VHS to HDMI interface from my Laserdisc player to my entertainment system.

"At last, my arm is complete again!"
I still have the original Laserdisc version of Star Wars.

My very first two Laserdiscs after I purchased my first LD player were "Star Wars" and "Xanadu".

You can criticize my choices all you like, but that last statement remains a good sample of my core values.

So, at least be kind...
Don't let folks get away with treating "politics" and "politician" as dirty words, especially when they are doing so for a political reason. 😉😤
* Another reason I joined "the terminally online" (i e. being engaged in current events that affect us all) was to find examples of how to put my thoughts into a more eloquent form.

Jamelle reminds us it is past time to reclaim the word "politics".
Thanks, @jamellebouie.net !

I have long thought phrases like, yes, "normies" as well as "not everybody is terminally online" and "most people are too busy living their lives to care about ..." both lazy and condescending.
🚨

Ding, ding, ding, ding

One of the original reasons* I first started participating in online conversations was to see if anyone else saw things in a way that I thought was perfectly obvious; that I wasn't alone.

And every once in a while, I find validation from someone highly respected.
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something
That's just while I was in grade school and not even a complete list at that.

*My mother's first full-time job was Night Operator for her hometown. My father liked to repeat how anyone from Downingtown PA who needed to make a phone call outside of town after 11 PM had to speak to my mother first.
In addition, continuous CHANGE became THEE childhood experience:
- JFK vs Nixon
- JFK assassination
- Vatican II
- New Math
- Civil Rights
- UHF and color TV
- Satellites/manned spaceflights
- Direct dial* and TouchType telephony
- MLK and RFK assassinations
- Hippies
- Nixon and Reagan win (US/CA)
Simultaneously, new Catholic schools were being built and opened in newly defined parishes, and over that year and the next, class size shrunk to about 60 students. Sunday Mass started at 6:00 AM, every hour and a half apart until shortly after noon both in the church and the gym in the basement.
I was born in 1955, right at the peak of the Boom. My first defining generational memory was sitting two to a desk in First Grade at a Catholic grade school with over 120 kids in each of the two First Grade classrooms, something folks younger than I claim was impossible.
I can't locate it now (most likely behind a firewall), but earlier today I saw a political cartoon with a giant pipeline through the demolished East Wing labelled "$$$ (Doubles as Ballroom)".
I know compared to, for instance, Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine, this takes a back seat, but...

...the destruction of the East Wing and the eventual (?) construction of the Ballroom is the biggest, most easily understood, example of current Trumpish corruption and megalomania.
It’s far from the most important thing, morally right now, or in terms of the human stakes, but the ballroom thing is really breaking my brain.
As Robin Williams ironically pointed out: Puritans were so uptight that the ENGLISH kicked them out.

It's like they know that, despite claims of mandate level voter support, most American voters do not approve of blatant bigotry.
ALSO TOO MEANWHILE...

Bigoted Republican voters, consultants, pundits, GOP supporting media, and members of the Executive Branch not needing Senate approval dropped their masks immediately after Trump won re-election.
MEANWHILE...

Republican Representatives, Republican Senators, the Trump Administration, as well as Federal Judges and Supreme Court Justices appointed by Republican presidents and suggested by The Federalist Society keep advancing bigoted disinformation, policies, and procedures.
