Working too late on acoustics lecture materials, and now my dozing mind thinks it has to prepare an episode of Last Week Tonight that does a deep dive into the pulsating sphere problem

When I was young Orwell's line "if you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever" was seen as a description of communism. Today, it applies to the Labour right.

Nothing I've heard since has persuaded me otherwise
This should dispel the scurrilous accusation that Sir Keir Starmer is a cynical vote-chaser who says whatever he thinks voters want to hear, and confirm that he is a man of sincere (albeit repulsive) conviction
Labour's next biggest losses are to left-liberal parties (Liberal Democrats and Greens).

Reform's growth in support has mostly come from the Conservatives and non-voting (much less from Labour).

These reflect patterns of party-bloc voting that we saw in the 2024 UK GE: tinyurl.com/y5pv7thw

I swear my mate just told me her toddler has foot and mouth disease. In my role of child free auntie, I have no idea how to help. Do I send a get well soon card, or help her burn the farm down to stop the infection spreading???

Why I don't hate PowerPoint
My use case is making slides for lectures, for which (bearing in mind I can't write as I go) I find it the least worst tool. Why?

Why I like Microsoft's Equation Editor
When my right hand started to lose its cunning I tried to learn to write left-handed, buying special pens and exercise books, but never got far enough that I could manipulate equations on paper the way I used to

They should certainly trail that, in the same way that the Tories trailed that Toby Young was in the frame to lead the OfS. Once the outrage had been sprayed across the sector they rowed back on it and appointed someone almost as ghastly with minimal protest

How come I can point my phone camera at any rectangular object and it will give me a face-on view of it, but I can't put an open book on a scanner and have it give me two page-images without pressing thirteen buttons and lining it up exactly right?
