When we lived in the midlands my son was one of two white babies at his nursery. I have mild prosopagnosia so it helped a lot (the other white kid had hair). Suspect it reflected whose mothers worked as it didn’t reflect the mix in the neighbourhood.

Ah. Turns out it is series 2 I have been watching as somehow I had missed it.
meganfarr.bsky.social
Been watching it on holiday. Kind of wish I’d downloaded the previous season though because it’s been a while…

I used to go to a knit group there and we got chucked out. Regular Wednesday night booking all winter and in those days tourism wasn’t year round.

Many years ago my son put Zelda themes on my phone and for a long time it would randomly play them on long drives.

Definitely another source for you.

I wasn’t planning to but….

Not a Dane in the UK but was once a Kiwi/Scot in DK.

Absolutely with you on this.

A semi-regular reminder that the official-sounding "Commission on School Reform" is in fact a front for a lobbying organisation that refuses to tell us who funds it.

When we ran out off compost he went out to buy more! We’ve also dealt with the rotting plums on the lawn.

Our ancient plum tree produces inedible plums in huge quantities. After 5 years we have perfecting our technique for shovelling.

In warm weather our garden waste bin starts fermenting!

Advantage of kid now being an adult. He’s helpful! This amend he has helped with winter planting and tidying. I have tubs with cyclamen and winter pansies (bit late with those, as ever). And we finally split the planter of hostas into two about two years after I bought the new planters.

I’m on a Scottish one on FB and at least one a week there is an opportunity to use my one line Scottish weather advice.

“It can be 10°C and raining literally any month of the year”.

Brilliant blog from Robert on his unique experience!

From Scotland to Geneva! Our Young Advisor Robert took children’s voices to the UN on the #RightToEducation, speaking as 1 of only 5 children invited globally 🌎 — a first for
UN treaty-drafting.

What was it like?

Read his blog: bit.ly/3IdsYvB
Quote graphic from Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland. Text reads: ‘One thing is for sure, our participation was real, and we weren’t just there to tick a box.’ — Robert, Young Advisor. Background shows UN flagpoles; inset photo shows Robert in a red-and-white top seated at a UN desk with a nameplate reading ‘ROBERT’ and the UN emblem.

The pale blue is actually pretty accurate for the range of cuisines easily available via Uber Eats in Auckland, where I grew up. Sadly when I actually lived there it was almost exclusively Tattie Cuisine.

“This year we’re going to be breeding our own Sturgeon”.

Hairy bikers were on Saturday Kitchen this morning, visiting a caviar farm in Yorkshire. Every other sentence sounded like a new ScotPol scandal.

“So how long have you been into Sturgeon?”

Stirling used to have a tech store called Stormfront which was weird AF.

I've always found it quite funny that the English pronounce it this way - the NZ pronunciation is closer to the Icelandic and NZ has quite a lot of geysers too.

This is just hilarious though.

Some disability life admin today but for a good reason. After 15 months I finally have my Access to Work award letter, including power assist for my wheelchair, but the recommended model has been recalled. Now trying to arrange demos for alternatives without having to travel to the West Midlands!

How not to answer the [written parliamentary] question. Or, the subtle art of saying nothing, elegantly.

My newsletter, out now.

Sometimes, when I’m trying to annoy my other half or just looking to pass the time, I deliberately respond to innocent inquiries in the style of a written parliamentary question (WPQ). It goes something like this:

Question: What’s for dinner?

Answer: Dinner will contain a range of ingredients and further detail will be set out in due course.

Or:

Question: What are your plans for tomorrow?

Answer: I regularly meet with a range of stakeholders to discuss progress on key initiatives.

And most egregious of all:

Question: What time will you be home?

Answer: I remain committed to getting to sleep at a reasonable hour.

As a wheelchair user, I get a wheelchair space that isn't full of suitcases and a member of staff who will make sure I get assistance to get back off the train. And I can transfer to a train seat rather than stay in my wheelchair, which is safer.

Wales is officially bilingual. Scotland is not. The equivalent of my work in Wales has to produce everything in Welsh as well (and we have to factor that into timescales for joint work).
