I periodically return to the Apollo 11 Journal: www.nasa.gov/history/alsj...

There's a sense of being in the presence of a modern sacred text. It's interesting, too, because it's so nuts-and-bolts. But underlying it...

as a viz idea alone this is so neat!! 🤩 but it also demystifies multi-wavelength images so well!!
Whoa, indeed!

Here is a ViewSpace interactive slider that I worked on, giving a multi-wavelength view of Centaurus A.

baby galaxyyy 🥹🤩🤩
Behold the Firefly Sparkle galaxy! 🤩 We're seeing this incredible tiny galaxy as it existed only 600 million years after the big bang, & at a stage similar to what our Milky Way galaxy likely went through. More: science.nasa.gov/missions/web... #jwst

While I agree that LLMs making up facts confidently is a problem (although Claude 3.5 feels like it’s gotten better at saying “I don’t know”), I disagree with the absoluteness of this statement. As for reasoning, I’ve worked alongside Claude (which I prefer) for many things - code, prompt
I honestly believe all LLM results should come with a disclaimer reminding people that the thing doesn’t (and absolutely cannot) know any facts or do any reasoning; it is simply designed to *sound* like it knows facts and frequently sweeps some up accidentally in the process.
I really think many if not most of the LLM fail cases are people trying to use it as a search engine. It is the opposite of a search engine.

last night my local theatre (and my fav place in nashville) @belcourttheatre.bsky.social 🫶🏽 showed a 35mm screening of pulp fiction and getting to re-watch it on the big screen with other pulp fiction fans was truly amazing! 🍔👑

‼️ New #jwst image alert ‼️ This gorgeous new view of the Sombrero galaxy shows that unlike in the visible-light images, the brightly glowing core of the galaxy doesn't shine, but we see instead a smooth inner disk, & we can see new details of the outer ring. More: science.nasa.gov/missions/web...

This is an incorrect calculation of the area of a triangle by a young Babylonian student at school around 1900-1600 BCE, excavated from the ancient city of Kish.

It’s a moment in the history of math, of education, of children, of mistakes, of people being people. I love it.
