I struggle with this so much. It also manifests in a frustrating concept that whether or not people like me is determined by how useful I am to them, which has sucked even more as chronic illness has worn down my body and forced me to rely on others more. The ole "I'm either useful or a burden". 🙃

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

As much as I like writing Sylus/MC fanfic, I really enjoy any opportunity to include Luke and Kieran. They are the second set of twins in a video game that I've adopted and I want so many good things for these boys. This is a bit of a sad-ish moment though:

Excerpt from a fanfic written on Ellipsus:

He'd even almost laughed when they'd told him that they wanted to serve him so they could stay close and see if anyone out there is actually strong enough to kill him. Over the next two years, Sylus had accepted them as his hands and taught them so many things--weaponscraft, demolitions, interrogation techniques...but also driving, motorcycle repair, shaving, videogaming, music appreciation--

"Hey." Luke quietly interrupts their reverie as the sun starts to dip lower in the sky. "Do you think she could do it? Kill him, I mean."

Kieran frowns. "You know...she gets stronger every time we see her. I think she could, maybe. If not now, then someday."

Luke sighs, unusually somber. "Honestly, even if she can, I kinda hope she won't."

"Yeah. Me too."

Does anyone else have the issue where you go to write what's supposed to be an intimate, spicy scene in fanfic but the characters decide they're gonna intimately talk through a bunch of their trauma instead?

Like, it's cathartic for them to work through their stuff, but the timing...

💜 How do I find the friendliness, supportive vibes, and lack of shame that I see in my feed from the XIV community but for LADS? Admittedly, I'm still so new coming back into writing that I barely know how to respond to a writing challenge, let alone make one of my own.

I encountered this as a viewer on another channel's short and I couldn't find anything on my end to change the language to "The Original Effing Video" so I was just stuck with some dead robot voicing the entirety of a clip where the original voice acting was the entire point of the short.

I feel like I'm in a weird spot, because I see a lot of the FFXIV fanfiction writer posts and relate to them, but I don't really interact much or respond because the fics I'm writing are Love and Deepspace rather than XIV. But there doesn't seem to be an analogous community for LADS writers?

Y'all I have been asking since before I joined Bluesky on either account--please go read this comic. It's a beautiful comic with some exquisitely crafted divergences from Shadowbringers canon. Rich and intentional color, an art style that just makes my brain feel good, and Vivi is a treasure.
