“We’re about here,” Jungkook says, finger prodding at a point in the woods west of the Westroad, which—yes, that matches Jimin’s assumption. The town to the south that they left from is a stark dot among the trees, nameless. “So west-northwest would be about here.” Jimin traces a path, and—there, yes. A thin mountain road and another blot of a township. Laid out on parchment it looks simple, but it must be nearly a fortnight’s travel from here. Jungkook leans in. “Crow Pass,” he says. “House Nalgae has a holding there.” Jimin leans closer with a frown. The ink is faded but he can just make out the elegant sweep of the name and the blot of a township, though there’s no road cutting through the break in the mountains. “Still? I thought that house was gone.” Jungkook’s head rises, his dark eyes fixing on Jimin. “You’ve heard of it?” Ah. Shit. “Here and there,” Jimin rectifies swiftly. “Folk on the road told me there were no lords in the west. That they’d all died.” That much is true—he’s poked about as deeply as he’s dared, and everyone he’s asked has agreed that the western lords are all gone. These remote reaches have long been wild country, but now it truly goes unchecked and unwatched. Jungkook’s mouth draws into a thin line. “No,” he says, shoulders hunching, staring down at the map again. “They’re not dead.”
