User Researcher interested in the environment and ethics, increasingly working on AI these days. I also like to talk about silly things so there’s that…
Just found out “urgent referrals” in the NHS mean you have to be seen within 28 days. I have a very different definition of “urgent”

Fonts are in the news, so I'm going to take the opportunity to port over an old thread: what was typography like in the Soviet Union?

Spoiler: they did not just have 1 font everyone had to use. As a matter of fact, there were 39.

One of them, you can see here, used to great effect for "Chernobyl."

Halifax completely missing the point of these “Wrapped” summaries and reminding their users they’re one of millions and the bank knows very little about them.

Yeah… don’t do this.

It’s nearly 10pm. Of course this is when my daughter tells me she sat in some gum in the school trousers she needs to wear again tomorrow.

Given that AI training data continues to be biased in most cases, do we think it is so popular amongst the demographic in charge because it reinforces their narrative of “the world as it should be”, rather than the more complex and nuanced views that have been emerging?

I just shared it with a colleague when discussing what design is and what not.

So much of my work includes activities listed like:

Between all the AI slop, sponsored posts and the terribly implemented cookie consent banners and pop ups and ad banners when you do finally find a website that may contain the answer to what you were searching for - I can definitely see why you’d use AI.

If we accept that trust is a currency of life and energy is a universal currency, is there an exchange rate between the two? And what is it? You do need energy to create trust and (sometimes) trust to create energy. #randomthoughts #wishiwasaphysicist

Gentle reminder: if you are a woman in a position of power but only amplify the male voices in your environment then you are not the feminist you think you are.

Wish there was a way to put the US in a time out for a while so they can think about how they’re behaving and come back when they’re ready to join the group

The other day, someone in a meeting implied that it was impossible for an app to be both elegant and AAA compatible and it’s been gnawing at me ever since.

So, #accessibility and #design folks - can you help me show them this is incorrect? Who’s nailing both accessibility and app (visual) design?
