I write music and play guitars, synths, eurorack by night.
I work on Embedded SW, Machine Learning, DSPs, by day.
Currently on a deep dive about environmental and social issues, trying to rectify my abysmal ignorance and figure out what I can do to help.
A transition period at work lasting most of 2025 (startup bankruptcy), ignited a need to dig deep into the metacrisis. I learned a lot, but now I'm a bit lost as to what do to with all this information. If 2025 brought some enlightenment, I hope 2026 will bring meaning and purpose.

Epoch.ai cronicles our compute addiction: how many datacenters are being built, and how much they consume. Like watching a cancer metastasizing in real-time.

Regulation is clearly coming. It's just a matter of when.

AI companies are racing to build superintelligence. Ordinary people are racing to get their governments to stop them.

Global CO2 from fossil fuels is projected to hit a record 38.1B metric tons in 2025, up 1.1%. Increases in the U.S., India and China, plus a 6.8% jump in aviation, outpace clean energy gains. Researchers warn that staying below 1.5°C is no longer plausible.

This climate-wrecking data center/AI bubble is going to do us all in.

"Data centre developers are turning to aircraft engines and fossil fuel generators to power the AI boom, as supply chain shortages and long waits to connect to the grid delay cheaper and cleaner alternatives."

I wrote a number of pieces for National Geographic this Christmas and was delighted to be able to share the work of colleagues I deeply admire. First up this piece about angels featuring quotes from Christy Cobb and the work of @emuehlbe.bsky.social

Angels in ancient myths were actually pretty terrifying
Far from the baby-cheeked cherubs of Renaissance art, they were fiery beings who inspired fear.

NEW: last night, the US govt launched an assault on the ‘global censorship industrial complex’, aka European tech researchers/campaigners.

It’s a deeply chilling move & speaks as to why we need international solidarity more than ever.

Book #11 was "History for tomorrow" by @romankrznaric.bsky.social A very inspiring book to continue my deep dive! It goes perfectly after Goliath's Curse. That one uses History to repeatedly punch you in the face, this one uses it to lift you back up a little.

Just finished book #10 Goliath's Curse by @lukekemp.bsky.social . Stunning work, connecting examples of collapse from all across time and space into one thread, finding patterns and what they can teach us about our current predicaments. Not a light read, but warmly recommended!

1) This is some pretty remarkable shade thrown at the big AI companies by a startup that's hiring away their researchers

2) That those researchers are giving up millions to do this indicates a rising level of discomfort with OpenAI/Meta/Google/etc's moral standing

Book #9 is Hanzi Freinacht's "Nordic ideology." So far, it's as brilliant as the first one. This stuff should be studied in schools instead of obsessing over old stuff. We need to discuss the global future and how we want it to be, not the past, through a tiny identitarian lens.

The sandman series was great! I love the whole atmosphere and pace of it, it's different than anything else. The main actor is great, and the soundtrack is perfect. Now I want to read the comics, but I don't also don't feel like donating to Gaiman 🤔
