It may have been a wee bit overhyped. More like a bunch of butter tart vendors set up in the university centre with massive line-ups. They sold out /way/ before the advertised end point. Ontarians /really/ like their butter tarts. Although it’s also just easy to sell treats at a university!

Sadly, my efforts to procure butter tarts at the U of G butter tart festival have been thwarted. Huge crowds, and long line-ups at 12:15 for the few vendors that aren't sold out. But I think that counts as a success - they'll need to broaden it next time!

Hard no to the educational evangelists now pushing us to ‘embrace’ corporate gen AI as inevitable. And shame on the universities buying this crap and funding ‘expert’ speaker series espousing it.

I like having the e-books of popular titles available so they are available en masse for popular undergrad research essay topics. But if I have to read an academic book cover to cover or even multiple chapters I always want print. I know a lot of my students feel the same way.
