Official account for the 26th LA City Council President, Marqueece Harris-Dawson.
Yesterday, thousands of LAUSD students held a walkout at City Hall to protest the federal government's immigration raids.

Their message was clear—ICE out of our schools, ICE out of our city, ICE out of everywhere.

In a time when the federal government is actively removing Black monuments and inflicting state-sponsored terror on everyone in our community, we must remember to resist, not give an inch, and fight back.

Los Angeles was built by Native communities and Mexican Pobladores, by Asian and Black families seeking freedom, by immigrants from every corner of the world who arrived with little more than faith and left an indelible mark.

As Angelenos join today’s nationwide shutdown to resist unconstitutional ICE actions around our country, everyone stay safe, resolute, and proud.

Dr. King's legacy is one of peace, and while today was filled with much unity and love, we need to keep doing everything we can to strengthen our ties and promote public safety. My prayers go out to the man who was injured today.

ICE has escalated its raids across the city and has recently targeted Santee Alley, Westlake, and Figueroa. They’ve even been sighted in my district by Bret Harte Preparatory Middle School.

We won't stand for this. We need ICE out of LA now.

Today is a somber and challenging day for Angelenos. While January is typically a month of renewal, this is one of remembrance.

Crenshaw Connected is a declaration that in Los Angeles, every resident deserves equal access to the tools of the 21st century. Today, we launched the first free WiFi program in the City on Crenshaw Boulevard.

This is more than infrastructure—it is digital justice.

Los Angeles doesn’t wait for the future to arrive—we build it.

I’m excited to watch our Convention Center get modernized, our businesses thrive, and Downtown LA, the beating heart of our local economy, get revitalized.

There is nowhere you’re going that is more important than someone’s life.

Everyone must drive safely to make sure that no person or family in our community has to experience the tragedy of losing a loved one.

Today, we celebrate Mexican Independence Day during a challenging time in the U.S.

From our Madrina, @cd1losangeles, to President Claudia Sheinbaum, who became the first woman to lead Mexico’s 215th annual celebration, let this year’s El Grito remind us that when we fight back, we win.

Incidents like these are the actions of a few and do not define the people of South LA. Our community has worked hard to disrupt cycles of violence, and that work continues, alongside our intervention workers, law enforcement, and neighbors who are already comforting the families involved.
