Had a wonderful birthday celebration in Chicago for my wife. Dinner at Mott St., New Orleans Jazz at the Den Theatre, a stay at The Blackstone Hotel overlooking Lake Michigan, pool on a table donated by Paul Newman, and a day at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Why bother teaching novels, anyway?
This week brought fresh thinking on the [unproven-but-likely] shift from novels to excerpts in US English classrooms. I’ll footnote some of that below*, but here’s the tl;dr: please—teach books.

There’s money to build detention camps.

There’s money for Argentina.

There’s money to invade Venezuela.

But we’re supposed to believe there’s no money for healthcare, housing & food?

Suffering is a policy choice.

I've been using green screen for a decade w/my 4th & 5th grade students w/book trailers, food commercials to show the manipulation in advertising to children, & public service announcements in science for being prepared in hazardous situations such as hurricanes & tornados. #EduSky #engagement
Green screen projects naturally weave creativity, emotional intelligence, and technology together in ways that support students’ academic growth! 🌻
