The part of me that is constantly looking to understand the future, acknowledges this and cannot help but to speculate that it is an intentional culling before automation displaces people from the workforce to such a degree that we DEMAND egalitarian distribution of the benefits.

IMO "Representatives" should live off of the economic floor they establish for their constituents. Especially considering automation displacing human labor from the workforce en masse over the next few decades.
Representatives shouldn't enjoy any health care benefits until every American has basic health care.
