Find it funny that people think that getting implanted with the same kind of chip that all UK cats and dogs have some makes them 'transhuman'. Mind you, means if you lose your mind at a festival someone can scan you for contact details and return address.

Hi Aaron. I realise it's my lack of clarity that's caused confusion! My comment was intended to be a response to the content of the original OSR article you cite. I've been pondering rule v mechanics more broadly since Jay Dragon posed a question about it a few days ago. Onions all the way down.
December 21, 2025 at 1:20 PM
I've read the linked article and I'm struggling to understand the distinction being made between 'procedure' and 'mechanic'. As it's offered, they seem to be addressing the same thing on a sliding scale of clarity?

@originstorypodcast.bsky.social excited to hear you may be doing live shows outside of London. Hoping you might consider Bath or Bristol.

Not to worry. Thanks for getting back to me.

Hi Ian. I managed to get a copy of Mileships on a late pledge and it's a fantastic piece of work. Are individual prints from the book officially available anywhere? I've searched online without much success.

It's going to look messy post-bloom. If you want to use the bulbs again then definitely leave the foliage on. Best advice I can give is find a place to hide the pot!

It depends on the effect you want, in part. Sequential or simultaneous blooming? Varietal size also has an impact on layering. Smaller tend to go shallower. I found this a helpful guide www.farmergracy.co.uk/blogs/farmer...
Bulb Lasagne Plantings: a Feast for the Eyes - Farmer Gracy's Blog
After reading this you’ll understand how to make a feast of a different kind, one that’s intended for the eyes, by creating a bulb lasagne planting!

That's definitely got me thinking. I wonder if there's merit in looking at it as Host v Guest. There's the desire to create an experience to be enjoyed, and the desire to participate in that. Both require investment, but of different degrees and type. And both positions have rules & expectations

I think it's worth caring about the distinction because they offer different possibilities for balancing, flavour, and approaches to resolution. Maybe to emphasize the vastness of space you can jump 50ly... pull a card from your flight plan deck to see how close you land to the destination...
December 15, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Rules are boundary conditions, mechanics are methods of resolution (do this to achieve that). They are distinct because they can be varied independently. "Ships can jump a max 10 light years," is a rule. "Make a d100 pilot roll to see how accurately you jump," is a mechanic.

Not sure what your budget is, but the Shure MV7+ gets a lot of love. USB and XLR connection. Not too expensive. Used older MV7's are substantially cheaper, but I'd only buy from a reputable retailer.

I was part of a three-person offshoot of an Eve Corp (Wingspan) who specialized in wormhole PvP. We got so good at understanding our respective skills and roles we didn't need to talk much after the go signal. Our AAR discussions were better than any IRL project wash ups I attended in my career.

The sheer brass neck of it is astounding. "Legacy of Excellence," my arse. "Lettuces and Excrement," more like.

I'll use that. Really, I was just trying to work out what would make her most miserable!

I'm wondering if it's worth listening to a bit of the first one via an app and never, ever, listening again.

Then she can relive that delicious feeling of collapsing support that she so richly deserves.

It did fade a bit for me when I went to University, but then I moved to London and was close enough to Canary Wharf when the IRA set off a truck bomb in 96 that my windows flexed. Stuff never felt peaceful for long, sadly.
December 2, 2025 at 9:55 PM
As a fellow Gen Xer I don't feel I grew up with a sense of peace.

The fact that I grew up near the Stanlow oil refinery, which my dad informed me would be a primary target for a nuclear strike in the event of war, saw to that.

I saw @friede.bsky.social mentioned this. I think Mothership does a very good job of getting the new player/new GM stuff done very quickly. It's not zero content, but a very small fraction of the total. The Player's Survival Guide says more about how to be a 'Great Player' than what a TTRPG is.
November 28, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Funnily enough I'm prepping to run Mothership tomorrow. The Player Guide covers "what is an RPG" in two sentences. The Warden's Operation Manual expands coverage to a single paragraph. Really lovely, terse, writing.
