These moronic Terranoids think they can just roll in here and take over my beautiful Tyrythian kingdom? The kingdom that I built from the ground up with my bare hands, and only sort of inherited from ...

It's a good Friday night

I honestly can’t even remember why we chose the languages we did — likely early woshlist trends — but overall it’s been US on top as usual, then a big Germany showing, Canada, UK, France. So nothing out of the ordinary honestly

This is unbelievable, just amazing

Just as my 2 cents, I don’t really agree with you much! As I mentioned, this is the first game (in our 8 years) where we’ve done paid advertising for a game. The reason we’re doing it now, is because times have changed — and even then, our marketing spend is maybe 15% compared to the dev spend

Somehow we had a successful game launch in 2025: A thread 🧵

We launched Little Rocket Lab this week, and it's been mega for us. Which is amazing, because well, the industry is bad right now!

So I wanna go through the things we did, in the hope that something here can be helpful to someone here

We used an extremely clever system called “keep asking people to join a discord and then give them all keys” haha

Which is, you know, super duper grim.

But that's now where we're at, and if you're currently building up towards a launch, I would strongly consider beginning to plan what sort of paid campaign you are capable of running

Without it, you're now just gambling with the future of your game 😬

Overall, all of this together has left us with around 80,000 players in three days

My biggest takeaway from this launch, is that times have well and truly changed. Having a great game is still half the battle... but if you don't have the money to pay for success, you'll likely have problems

4. Tons of playtesting = highly rated

We have a 93% rating on Steam, which I'm hoping we can get to Overwhelming Positive in the coming months

We got there through months and months of extensive playtesting, building tons of QoL features for the game

Just so, so important for this launch

3. Game Pass

I know things are a bit 💥💥💥 about Game Pass at the moment - but our GP deal for Little Rocket Lab helped ensure that the game will very likely recoup all of its costs within a single week after launch

There's also no evidence that being on Game Pass has dampened Steam sales at all

2. Paid stuff

This was the first time at @nomorerobots.io we've paid *lots* of money into ads and influencers. We spent roughly $50k total, with a burst around Next Fest, and then a bigger burst in the weeks leading up to the launch.

On launch day, we used ads to make sure *everyone* saw the game

1. Announcement

We first showed the game at the end of 2024 as part of @wholesomegames.com Wholesome Snack

That ended up bagging us around 8,000 wishlists, which was an amazing start. In general, if you can get into a showcase, it's always a good idea -- the Wholesome showcase was perfect for us

Omg, someone made Toasty from Little Rocket Lab with Lego

First time someone has Legoed one of our games haha
mikerose.bsky.social
Both very similar games though, and both from solo Canadian devs (who know each other!)

We banned a guy on the Steam forums for repeatedly saying there were “too many women” in our game

So he flipped his positive review to negative

Still totally worth it
