Sometimes a good rejection for a piece is enough to know that you've cracked it through to a solid space to keep sending it out. Genuinely such a nice feeling.

Pitching an article I'm referring to as "Fry Slut" to a food mag knowing full-well I won't be able to use that title, but I'm going to pretend like it's a clever reference to Bourdain ("burger slut") that I thought I could riff on, as if that wasn't an afterthought because fries rip.

Jane Emig writing about the need to explore writing as a mode of learning, even if imperfect, mirroring the whole impetus for me writing about how GenAI should not be used in FYC courses (or, personal mentality, in any classroom), really hit the spot as I was reading it for this annotated bib.

I took a sip of tea right after I took the strainer out of the pot. I slurped to try to dissipate the heat, and then spit in the sink assuming that might save me from a scorched tongue and underlip. That's what I get for being overzealous, wanting to know how the first steep tastes.
