Btw Minecraft movie was often genuinely funny & visually great. I was just expecting to enjoy references to a game I love (which there were many, and they showed that the people behind the movie have genuine love for the source material) but it ended up being super fun

Jentry slows down/speeds up as she gets more or less confident in what she's playing!

This approach also allowed us to more freely pick and choose when to cut back and forth between Jentry and Gugu since the two scenes are happening simultaneously.

My solution was to grab a MIDI of "The Moon Represents My Heart" and bring it into GarageBand (did you know they have a guzheng preset??).

I isolated the melody, transposed it into the right key and tempo, and then exported several versions of the song at various speeds

I cut a shortened version of the song. But we needed to hear Jentry playing along—AND we really wanted the flexibility to adjust her playing on-the-fly in the edit bay, so we could choose which notes Jentry hits/misses & show the cause/effect relationship with the traps.

Animatic vs final version of the guzheng sequence in ep. 8 of #JentryChauvsTheUnderworld
This sequence was tricky! All of the on-screen action HAS to happen in real-time as the song plays, and Jentry plays along. Every time she gets a note wrong, it sets off a trap.
