I wrote this book for many reasons. Maybe the best reason right now is that it's time to live out our values as academics. If those values include mentoring and preparing the next generation to navigate an uncertain future, how can we learn to be as helpful to one another as possible?

Such an important piece, @drkevinrmcclure.com. Gratitude is a powerful motivator for individuals and teams, and it's typically free! Yet saying "thank you" sincerely requires slowing down and being intentional. In work cultures where "busy bee" is the norm, there are missed opportunities galore.

Today's NYT op-ed by Jessica Grose highlights how the modern workplace is eroding the dynamics of care we used to take for granted. I see the same effects in my work supporting academic mentors. So many mentoring "fails" I witness have something to do with the mentor feeling overwhelmed or rushed.
