What is the thought process behind making things like instructional videos when a wealth of identical content exists?

As a deeply insecure person, I have always wondered about this type of content. Like what thought enters your head when you decide to make a video drilling a hole or whatever.

Considering getting a shop job just to have work.

Last time I had professional job-hunting assistance, I was told not to look at jobs outside my field, but I can't stand this feeling of helplessness.

Cybersecurity as an industry kinda sucks because a painter can always paint, but practicing exploits in your own lab is kinda cheating.

Like imagine unlocking your own door and calling yourself a burglar.

Shoutout to Vivaldi browser for a tidy, if awkward, installation and removal process. It's fast, but there's little infrastructure for switching from mainline FF or other browsers.

If someone sent you an email saying someone was impersonating your HR people, you'd respond right away, right?

Especially if you're a publicly-traded healthcare company, right?

Just found out about FieldNation, allegedly Uber for techs. $40 for background check, $40 for drug testing, 1.5% of every call for insurance, and a variable percentage as a service fee.

I just want a real job.

I thought that ghost jobs were bad, but ghost recruiters (and people impersonating legit recruiters) have given me a special kind of compulsive anxiety that's somehow even worse.

It's fun how we enjoyed a brief period of time in which art and science were something everyone could access and now we're soft-gated into a Victorian class system again.

We're doin' the Brain Drain thing rn in the US.

Europe is literally paying you to go over there and enjoy healthcare, civil rights, and social safety nets.

If you have IT certifications, Germany is begging you to come.

The technology doesn't work. It *feels* like it works, so they keep doing science to see whether it does or it doesn't. But when you look at it with science instead of vibes, it just doesn't. https://fortune.com/2025/05/18/ai-chatbots-study-impact-earnings-hours-worked-any-occupation/
Study looking at AI chatbots in 7,000 workplaces finds 'no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation'
Despite AI’s promise to revolutionize white-collar work, most workers are using it sparingly—or hiding it from their boss.

Something I think about a lot is that liberal society defers solutions to problems until there's literally no other choice.

Nobody wants to find out their friend got drugged at a party, but nobody wants to be the guy who suddenly escalated the violence in the room to throw him out beforehand.

Marvel could pay for my healthcare for the rest of my life for a fraction of 1% of profit from Spider-Man Noir, a character whose original comics I edited. For Peter David to die in medical debt, co-creator of Spider-Man 2099 and writer of countless seminal Hulk and X-Factor comics—that's a disgrace

In case y'all missed it - Utah Republicans ordered a study on transgender healthcare, expecting it to come back unsupportive.

Instead, it found that trans youth care was safe and effective, and that transgender youth need it.

Whoops.

The past two decades have really cemented for me the idea that vibes and mutual respect are great for friends and terrible for governments. There's too many gentleman's agreements, unwritten rules, and unenforced laws. Basic human rights should be an iron law.
