Opting out of this AI licensing agreement, which was auto sent on a weekly basis by a certain publisher, was far from simple.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

LOLed from this one. (Maybe because I'm currently trying to sell a house.)

Real Estate: Wouldst This Suit M’Lord?
Tis a humble and rudely constructed domicile, true, but ’tis warm and dry, and there be space enough to lay your head on some flax and pass an evening’s time.

They think departments have enough money for every faculty member to invite a conservative to give a talk? That's cute.

🧵 3/3

UWP is now correcting and reprinting the book, which should be out soon. UWP has frozen sales and will reach out and arrange to provide anyone who has already purchased the book with corrected editions. I will post an update when the corrected version is ready.

If you have a copy of the book now, you will discover some typos. These are not major errors, but -- after working on the project for nearly a decade -- I want the book that is published to be the one that I actually signed off on.

🧵 1/3

I'm incredibly excited about my new book _Remaking the Earth, Exhausting the People_, so it came as a shock when, after getting my author copies, I discovered that University of Washington Press printed the uncorrected proofs rather than the corrected proofs that I supplied them.
