When I was at NIH and shutdowns loomed, it was discovered that the administration was planning to shut down PubMed. The head of NCBI called the powers that be and pointed out that this would threaten patient safety

Who knows what will happen now

Just in case, remember Euruope-PMC

The Ärzteblatt asked me about the instability of Pubmed (Why my? Don't know...). Not sure if I agree with the colleagues that we should build up national resources, I rather think we should strengthen existing European ones (e.g. EuropePMC, ENA, EGA...)... www.aerzteblatt.de/archiv/wisse...

Final session for today: Sven Nelander discusses how patient specific models combined with advanced molecular biology and large scale computation allow for a better understanding of CNS cancers.

We continue with Ido Amit who shows how single cell approaches allow to improve immune therapy and Anton Henssen introducing us to the world of extrachromosomal DNA and how this relates to tumor heterogeneity. Fascinating!

First session: Uli Keilholz of the comprehensive cancer center on how complex data and models are now used in the clinics, and Heiko Enderling on modeling approaches. Both show excellent examples on how computation already now is impotent for clinical decisions, and how it will be in future.

Why do kids respond differently to a new virus than adults? Lev has the answer… it is differences in Stat signaling. Happy that we (mainly @astaburuaga-garcia.bsky.social ) could contribute a bit. Congratulations @sawitzkilab.bsky.social and @woodenrobo.bsky.social to this great paper!

Excited to see my magnum opus published! Here, we explore how age correlates with changes in STAT signaling and modulates the immune response towards inflammation. See for youself!
Also, it's been a long time since pre-print, so here's the reworked explainer thread!

Rewired type I IFN signaling is linked to age-dependent differences in COVID-19
Petrov et al. identify an age-dependent shift in interferon signaling during SARS-CoV-2 infection, with older individuals favoring a STAT3-driven inflammatory response. This mechanistic insight helps ...

Very moving obituary by Stas Svartsman for Benny Shilo. I met Benny a few years ago at the WiKo in Berlin and enjoyed our very inspiring conversations about signaling dynamics and patterning. Glad that I met him.
