I used to write about film, then I produced movies no one watched. Now I draw things for a living. Formerly @montimer and @paintingtinymen on Twitter. Ben Mortimer II, III & IV on IMDb https://www.benmortimer.com

Street Fighter is a work of satirical genius on a par with Verhoven's Starship Troopers, made all the better because as far as I can tell, no one involved, including the writers, director and producers were aware that was what they were making.
Between him, coffezilla, and a few others, there is some genuinely great journalism/reporting being done, with fearlessness, independence and a willingness to cover uncomfortable realities in an understandable way. Its a shame so few major outlets are doing the same.
I'm glad someone else has noticed this. I've been following his coverage of the Ukraine War for what must be a couple of years now, and its fascinating seeing how he's clung to his moral compass so strongly, both on Trump and on Netenyahu.

Hopefully there are a lot more people like him in the US
Have some art. A piece inspired by the amazing Skating Polly gig i went to at the 100 Club the other day.

Went for a 1980s, 2000AD art style with this. Really pleased with how its come out

And the related question, how many pancakes and cucumbers would you need if the answer to the first question was 'yes'?
I have nerd-sniped myself with the question "would diving headfirst into a pit of gold coins break the neck of a human-sized anthropomorphic duck?"

I really don't have time for this today.
I firmly believe, even non-Christians should become comfortable with calling out people's blasphemy and heresy whenever they use the Bible to justify hate.

I’m so angry and upset. These women do not speak for me.

In dark moments I’m relieved that Alice isn’t here to witness it, for how could I protect her? All a mother wants is to keep their child safe.

Then I feel broken that I even thought that.

This is happening right now, across the UK – affecting thousands of young Trans+ people who are simply trying to be themselves and thrive

Young Trans+ people being inflicted with unspeakable mental and physical suffering

And all the while, anti-trans medical professionals, media figures,..

There may also be an element of leaders following these orders to remain in post, with a view that refusing now might mean they're not able to stop something worse later.
Is that a case of them not refusing, or it just not being reported though?
Not to get conspiratorial, but actually a lot of these degrees lead to pretty good, highly paid careers.

The thing is, they also teach students to analyse media, and be critical of information sources.

Maybe that's why media barons and bullshitting politicians have spent decades denigrating them.
Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow
It can't possibly be. I genuinely dont know how you could possibly make a bad film with that premise/cast
Yeah, i started at the very tail end of RT, left at the beginning of 3rd, then came back around the end of 7th, and it feels so much more friendly, welcoming and exciting. Even the prices aren't that hideous when buying through 3rd parties.

I do miss the old blister packs though.
I'm fairly certain the people kvetching about modern GW are from after the 2nd/early 3rd edition era. Apart from the parts service (and the tongue in cheek nature of RT) there are very few things that aren't significantly better than in the 90s.

Has anyone made this FOI request of the south-west and the London CYP Gender services?

This post ⬇️relates to the north-west service, where not one young person has been offered medical transition since the service was opened over a year ago.

This isn't treatment. It's state sanctioned conversion.
#UK #TransRights An FOI has just confirmed what all of us have feared: for the Youth gender services, since July 2024, not a single patient has been referred to commence HRT. And 22 have been moved from youth to adult services , also without treatment. This is scandalous.

I strongly object to the comparison many are making these days between Stephen Miller and Joseph Goebbels.

I think it's deeply misguided, and unfair, to compare them.

Goebbels was a far better propagandist, and didn't execute much policy.

Miller far more closely resembles Heinrich Himmler.
Went to see The Back to the Future musical this afternoon, and 90s Saturday evening TV comedian Brian Connelly is genuinely phenomenal as Doc Brown in it. Which is a sentence I never expected to type.
This is utterly glorious.

I cannot believe actual journalists are referring to an animated character as an "AI actor". Its honestly embarrassing that even when they're not completely falling for the tech bro bullshit they’re still parroting the marketing language.

I'm unlikely to keep up with #Inktober as I have a ton of work to do, but here's a doodle of one of my cats. As he's a pretty cooperative model, if I do keep doing these, you'll see more of him. #art #illustration
