Great news in a pretty miserable day of too many people being taken in by Farage yet again.

Of all the ways that the government could bring defence spending up to 2.5% of GDP, cutting overseas aid to 0.3% is probably the most shameful.

It's ridiculous that residents of areas like Elmbridge, which has budgeted carefully over many years and across multiple administrations may have services cut because Woking Conservatives spent ridiculous amounts.

That was my screen wallpaper for several years. Absolutely mindblowing.

A Labour government cozying up to the super-rich does seem like a betrayal.
"Plans to abolish non-dom status will be amended to allow a more generous phase out of tax benefits, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced."

Another day, another Labour disappointment.

You'd think I'd be getting used to it by now. But each new one stings like a paper cut.

It's so very frustrating that the government refuses to contemplate the most obvious means of improving the economic performance of the country.

Another Sunday, another day with Farage spouting his bile on the BBC.

There are people who do take him seriously. He is going to get people killed if he isn't challenged.

I shall maintain a diplomatic silence on that one.

So goodbye 2024. The year when a heart attack confirmed the absolute need to seize the day. Hopeful that 2025 will be less memorable.

There was a lot of apocalyptic scaremongering. I recall a lift company (Otis?) having to point out that their lifts didnโ€™t know the date, so werenโ€™t about to stop working.

Rubbish. It didnโ€™t cause an issue because it was taken seriously.

Sad to hear about the passing of Johnnie Walker. From his R1 show which was a must-listen at school lunchtimes to being a staple of my Sunday afternoons, he's been a joy to listen to. RIP Johnnie.

How does the pre-teen grapevine work? I was out for a couple of beers with an old mate the other night and he told me that his nine year old had just told him that joke.

This is outrageous. I missed my uncle's funeral because of the JSO protests on the M25, but that amounts to nothing compared to the disruption that climate change is already causing. The sentencing was bad enough, but to recall someone to jail because you can't find a tag to fit is disgusting
As Gaie's MP I tried everything I could to challenge this decision to send her back to prison - including writing to the prisons minister Lord Timpson and the probation service. But they would not budge a millimetre.
