Writing friends! I reach out to lots of individual #AmQuerying folks, but I wanted to try something a bit structured to help more people. So, I'm starting the Query Navigator Project. I'm currently looking for ~10-15 trench veterans interested in helping newbies!

How It Works: While mentorship programs focus on improving writing skill and developing & polishing a manuscript, this project is focused on what comes after: understanding and navigating the query process. (Graphic of a cartoon astronaut shrugging.) Experienced queriers will be paired with newbie queriers for 3 months to provide support on the querying process. It’s a query buddy system! - Answer questions about querying best practices, choosing agents, submission guidelines, etc.
- Be a contact for those “I feel like I should know this” or “I’m embarrassed I have to ask” questions
- Help recognize form vs personalized rejections
- Provide tips for organizing, tracking, and/or prioritizing queries

Who Can Take Part? Navigators should have at least 1 year or 1 book worth of querying fiction within the past 3 years, feel able to provide constructive comments with kindness, and be reasonably available for questions and support. Queriers should have a completed manuscript of industry-accepted length for their genre, a query letter (300 words or less), a synopsis (1000 words or less), and plan to actively query while participating. (Cartoon astronaut hanging off a star.)
