Jon Fasman catches up to the rest of America circa 1958 or so.

I doubt the Wall Street Journal will even get that far.

Compared to Dylan and Springsteen, country-music legend Johnny Cash can seem deeply uncool. It took time for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength, writes Jon Fasman.

Okay, so admittedly the first Tron was a critical and box office flop, and the second Tron was also a critical and box office flop, but I have some high expectations for this new Tron starring a man who exclusively makes critical and box office flops!

I’d forgotten it existed.

I mainly remember Sean Chen for his Iron Man run.

A loss for the Yankees is a win for America. And also Canada.

Vlad and Papi coming together to hate. A-Rod and Jeter just having to sit there and take it.

So many years that the Blue Jays were the third best team in the AL and also the third best team in their division.

There's always a baked in assumption that they'll get to be the served, not the servant.

The subtext of ‘we should be more like Dubai’, beyond the obvious racism, is ‘I should have a servant’.

I've never seen Event Horizon, but not because of its supposed quality (or lack thereof). I'm just not into horror films, especially graphic ones.

Second, another friend who went to see another movie on a date, and decided they hadn't quite gotten their money's worth from it. So they snuck into the theater next door and watched that movie, which was Event Horizon.

"And then we felt like we'd gotten even *less* for our money."

First, a friend who said he had the impression that at some point the director just said "Release the blood!"

Event Horizon is the subject of not one but two of the funniest reactions to films I've heard. (Neither is complimentary to the film.)

Okay, time to finish listening to the last episode of this *very intense* SF audio drama I’ve been listening to for the last few years.

(I mean, they may make more. It’s very well done. But maybe a little too intense for me.)

I wasn't sure which way this comment was going to go, but I checked the score and was like "must be the 'left 14 men on base' sort of game."

I guess all my connections are very low latency?

Anyway, it all sucks, and when you're the minority party in all branches of government there's just not a lot you can do.

I know it's impossible to do this sort of math (either ahead of time or afterwards), but how many seats would it be worth the Democrats losing in Congress in 2026 to win this shutdown fight?

I'm sure lots of moderate Dem congressfolk are considering if their seat is at risk if the shutdown lingers.
mrawdon.bsky.social
Unlike the shutdowns during his first term, Trump may be motivated to make this one *more* painful for Americans than usual. Especially if the Dems end up being blamed out of the gate.
mrawdon.bsky.social
It seems like there's a good chance that if the government shuts down, the Democrats are going to outright own the shutdown in public opinion. I'm not sure this has happened in the last 35 years. I think we know by now that the public hates shutdowns. Can the Dems spin it so the Republicans own it?
