Excellent advice on paper review:

1. Peer reviewers are volunteers.

2. Map all comments to actions.

3. Address all comments.

4. Focus on improving your paper, instead of arguing.

5. Rarely, and only with strong defense, say no.

6. Don’t take things personally.

7. Avoid recreational revisions.

Psychology:
3. I then found out that the author mixed suicide RATES (per 100,000) with suicide RATE RATIOS either standardized to 1 or to 100. See my comments to the figure. I confirmed this by looking at several individual studies. Of course this doesn't make sense at all.

Out today: a great handbook for anyone doing #experiments in #development economics. Yes, I have a chapter in it on household behaviour, but I'm recommending it because it has been written and edited by a talented group of economists who know their stuff.

Let's say you want to include age as a predictor in your model. How do you do that?

Here's an illustration of three options -- it's for a paper I'm working on (so if you feel like anything could be tweaked...).

As expected 🚨🚨

This is not a 'review' but rather a blow to research across the world.

Respective countries should maintain repositories of their data. By saying this, I am not supporting the cessation of DHS at the main site but am hoping for an alternative solution.

DHS surveys—essential to global health infrastructure—make you describe a project before you can download data.

My students are reporting nobody is responding anymore.

1. If you have DHS data downloaded, hang on to it!
2. Has anyone started consolidating these in case they disappear completely?
