Yeah, for sure. People don't care about the political system or authoritarian leaders of the country they admire, after all.

Just look at the US's tourism numbers *cough*

Sometimes I wonder, why this guy hasn't already moved to his beloved country. What's the number of expats there doing btw?

And as we are on the topic of old GDR maps and propaganda.

bsky.app/profile/alex...
A series of historic maps of Taiwan from different periods and perspectives.
The map from 1958 comes from an East German (GDR) atlas that labels Taiwan as a Chinese province. The map from 1964, also from an East German publication, goes further by describing Taiwan as occupied by the USA.

Old maps from the GDR (former East Germany).

Interesting is the last one - where the western part of Berlin is simply shown as a greenfield.

Maps can hide whole cities, if your narrative has to be like that.
🗺️#KartenundMacht: In der #DDR waren öffentliche Karten, auch Schulkarten, absichtlich falsch: weiße Flecken, verschobene Orte, fehlende Wege. Fluchten sollten so unmöglich werden. Es gab 2 Versionen:
🔒 genaue Karten für den Staat
🤞 verfälschte für die Öffentlichkeit

As people are talking in Germany about "gemeinsame Werte".

(context is the federal minister of foreign affairs visit to the USA - stating we share "common values")
Just had a conversation with a friend. We both agreed on that for us two, Taiwanese people are culturally closer to us (as being from Germany), than people from the USA.

Thinking of this - guess that could be even true for other people here.

(bold working theory, I know)

China annoying the EU with constantly repeating the wrong, which still doesn't make it right.

It's the good old record skipping. But a very bad one.

(and I'm a little bit tired of others talking about red lines)

China pressing European countries to bar Taiwan politicians or face crossing a ‘red line’
Exclusive: Chinese officials are using a ‘highly specific’ interpretation of EU rules to suggest Taiwanese figures should not be granted visas, officials say

Just found a video online of my first ever visited concert (where I wasn't performing).

Sonic Youth, I had just gotten 15.

No wonder I am quite tolerable of all things noise in music today. Or rather: that I love noisy music.

(I won't tell you which concert/tour it was)

Yepp, basically arranged everything like on your image, then steamed the plates for 5 minutes.

Was on point, soft and not to chewy.

Only cleaning the clams was hell of a work😂

"This shows that the most potent analyses, the ones most likely to make a good point, focus more on what’s going on in Taiwan rather than filtering everything through a China lens. "

Hello fellow german fearmongers, newcomers to the topic and armchair generals.

Actually there are people living in Taiwan - please take this into account. Any maybe you keep your expertise to the local bar, instead of panic-post-like-farming like many of you did.

Another excellent read:

This is now the second meal you helped me with and that got into my collection of recipes, that will be done more often....huge thanks again.
January 11, 2026 at 1:13 PM
Basically used your image on the left as the guide, thanks!

And that was yummy. A little bit like squid, but way more finer.

Haven't got any good images, as I made to the mistake to use plates, that wouldn't fit in my steamer - rearranging didn't make it prettier 🙈😂

And don't get me wrong - I have got an opinion about Takaichi.

But in the context of the importance of Taiwan for Japan she is imho absolutely right - and basically just continuing what Abe began.
