TFW a night heron has kicked your ass.
My heart of hearts and personal Director of Organizing has nixed going over there and flipping them off with one hand while using the other hand to shovel their hors d'oeuvres into my bag, sadly.
They are also having a social tonight. Jesus Christ, is this just some ghoulish glee at having ended tens of thousands of careers?
Journal of the Academy of Public Health--Bhattacharya's astroturfed, self-dealing disinfo rag--is tabling at #APHA #APHA2025 even as it's leading lights try and destroy the field's capacity AND use state capacity to engage in financial warfare against the org itself.

Sometimes i get sad at those “I wanted to look up what kind of horse pulled medieval wagons It’s three hours later and playtex bra sewers made spacesuits i have a problem” no. No, you don’t. Hydrate and get back in there
I strongly recommend everyone do research sometimes 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘯.

Look something up on Wikipedia. Go to the little citation. Follow it. Read the article it's referencing. Follow links to the original interview. Read the paper written by the interviewee

It genuinely makes you appreciate journalism
Tentatively heartened by the fact that I've been in DC for an hour now and seen more people dressed as bananas (2) than paramilitary freaks (0).
Second dumbest lie is "working class people share a common shitty aesthetic".
(I did this largely to keep my brain from melting while making slides, but partially to keep my audience's brains from melting--IMHO, slickness is not its own reward!)
What some of you AI devotees might have a hard time believing is that I made this chart completely by hand.
Again, that's because Kennedy has a bunch of loony bs as a veneer over the fact that he's a corporatist tool.
Black Flag bars go with everything, what can I say.

(Also my partner just saw this and said wait no get it I like that logo.)
I mean come on this is dope
I didn't get any of my potentially regrettable tattoos in my 20s and now in my 40s I still want all of them because none of them are Nazi shit.
When I moved it was still reading the HO TOTY so I guess I was the doom loop?

Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.
And I should emphasize, every time Newsom has accidentally sidled up to leadership, within six months he's hurled himself in the opposite direction in the name of some demented entitlement.

Selling out trans folks isn't new, it's just the latest symptom of his pathology.
This is why Gavin Newsom is a non-starter for me.

Sure, he's "a fighter" who's landed a few good punches on Trump, but that's not the same thing as a leader.

A real leader doesn't fight back against an authoritarian takeover by using the most vulnerable as his shield.
I keep seeing people say, oh, trans people must take a hit for the greater good and, first of all, no, you don't get to discard someone else's rights and second, we know from past experience that marginalized communities like theirs are merely the first to be targeted. They'll come for you next.
Lots of "and Freeman takes a strike, possibly one of the most brilliant not doing anything so alls in what has been a truly legendary postseason performance" to unsay.
Mainstream baseball analysis basically consists of people pretending to have memories of goldfish and acting as if their insights are significant. The genre does not allow for simple "hey, that happened, wasn't that a hell of a thing?" observations, which basically cover it all in the postseason.
Thankfully, I have no idea.
522nd artillery, 442nd infantry. D'oh.

To make it even more absurd, Dachau was in part liberated by the 552nd Artillery, a Japanese-American volunteer battalion.
Feel like pure shit just want her back
Please sir, could I have some transgender
APHA poster is off to the printer and I'm devastated to announce there are no references to '90s the Berkeley music scene in this one. (But I do have a policy brief coming out next week titled "Take Warning," so that's my consolation prize.)
More than that: peer review is done out of a sense of ethical and professional obligation, IT FUCKING SUCKS.

And it is the very pinnacle of racist-ass bullshit to suddenly treat it as a rarefied honor only when you see Those People getting asked to do it.
Every example given is an invitation to peer review, that notoriously esteemed unpaid task that everyone is clamoring to do.
