A thread for new films I see in the cinema in 2026. Starting with….

Sentimental Value - a still river running deep in its exploration of artistic expression and personal connection, and how these intersect. Packed full of terrific performances, with Renate Reinsvethe the stand out. 10/10. #filmsky
Great to see The Grand Budapest Hotel at the BFI this evening as part of their costume design strand this evening. And indeed the costumes are among the most exquisitely crafted you will ever see in any film. #filmsky

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

“By Oppression's woes and pains!
By your Sons in servile chains!
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!

Lay the proud Usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty's in every blow!
Let us Do- or Die!!!”

Saw Moon at the BFI this evening as part of their costume season. Extraordinary to think the budget for costumes was just 8k. #filmsky

A real treat to see the 35mm print of Withnail & I at the BFI earlier today. The wildly entertaining q&a with Richard E Grant hosted by Will Arnett that followed was the cherry on top. #filmsky

This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,

The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance

Iconic imo

Saw Velvet Goldmine at the BFI Southbank this evening, first time viewing. It’s a mess of a film, but the vibe is very real! Sandy Powell is most certainly correct when she says she won the Oscar for costume design for the wrong film that year. #filmsky

I walked into 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple ready for something intense, but I wasn’t prepared for how confident and bonkers this sequel would be. This movie reshapes the story that started with 28...

As 2025 draws to a close a few of my favourite film scenes from the past 12 months.

Starting with…..

The Life of Chuck - despite the film clearly being sabotaged by the studio for reasons unknown, its joyful extended dance sequence remains one of the years real cinematic pleasures. #filmsky

Back from my annual pre Christmas viewing of Its A Wonderful Life at the BFI Southbank, where it, as ever, received the warmest of ovations at the end. It’s a joy to see so many people still being introduced to this gem of a film after all this time. #filmsky
