I think it’s a shame there isn’t also a critical look at what that has ended up actually meaning- often knowledge stripped back, artificially sequenced, restricted knowledge and also poorly received by several disciplines

I wasn’t clear from reading this what the programme she’s proposing for all teachers is? Phonics works (except for over a third of disadvantaged pupils and up to 20% of total children) fine but the article doesn’t say what else we should be doing

This is a great thread/ list. I’d remind everyone to read around these too, especially as teachers, to ensure we’re engaging beyond author identity and into the content and inclusivity of the narratives and characters too.

Just visited a lovely primary school: all play all the time in EY, mixed ability throughout except where additional support needed, family dining, academic outcomes were the last thing the head mentioned- he was proud but also ‘not an exam factory’, community serving. Wish more 2ndry was like that!

The best thing about remote learning was asking pupils to use chat like a MWB. A favourite line from a poem, a choice of answer, a snippet of their writing all simultaneously shared. (Very much an @engmediacentre.bsky.social onkine staple) I also like shared docs with kids annotating ‘together’

If you’re returning to work after #maternityleave in #teaching then you might consider a workshop from @mtptproject.bsky.social www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/mtpt-octob... one of the most supportive groups of women I’ve had the pleasure to virtually know

And let’s also not forget that for many students the one arts subject they do study (eng lit) has often Been stripped of much opportunity to study it in a recognisable way to the discipline itself as memorisation of quotes and ideas dominate rather than discussion debate or interpretation

The other trouble is that a lot of people have evidence of being the best within the pre-review system. So using them to then write the new curriculum/ as consultants surely totally negates the idea that you thought we needed something new? What’s the point

I want -actually demand- a curriculum written by consensus of subject experts, pedagogical experts, child dev experts, physical health experts- pedagogical experts etc…

I want experts why have PHDs, have lived/breathed education, schools and the system.

I think our children deserve this.

I really do think it’s a shame if it becomes the same voices as, for example Oak. Whatever you think of Oak the people who did the new work on it had a totally different remit than what this curriculum review SHOULD be. This isn’t cover work the next 15 years of kids learning.

Loads of great posts today from @englangblog.bsky.social in accents. Just boosting as the bSky algorithm can feel a bit lonely sometimes.

Ed Davey, "I'm afraid Nigel Farage should be apologising for helping cause this problem in the first place"

"Before Brexit we didn't have a small boats problem because we had 27 return agreements with EU countries and we could return people"

-Maybe we should call them Farage's Brexit Boats

If you can 'reprogramme' AI, which clearly you can, then *no one should be using it as a trusted source of information*, especially not educators.

We have to differentiate between defending the right of all to disagree and being indifferent to the impact of what is being said - the message from yesterday is not simply free speech is safe but that we need to work harder to counter those who claim division offers anything for our future.

Ok here’s the thing. This is NOT a village. This is a nuclear family. By being like “we only need each other!” you’re not being cute, you’re enforcing the idea that women shouldn’t need any support outside of their own home, and if they do they’re failing. I hate this.
