Intrusive thoughts can feel like the end of the world. We’re powerful when we can identify when OCD is at play and respond in a healthy way.

A look at False Memory OCD.

"That's OCD. Let go or get dragged"

This is what I tell myself when I sense an intrusive thought coming to knock on my mental door.

It takes a couple of times, but eventually OCD gets the message that IT IS NOT INVITED.

OCD loves throwing those "what if" scenarios. What helps me is imagining placing each worry on a floating leaf on a stream and letting it drift by without judgment. Watch thoughts pass like leaves on a stream. It helps create some distance from the intrusive thoughts. #OCDToolkit #OCD #mentalhealth
I'm so OCD. I worry that I have given malaria to many people despite never having had it myself.

What else can we add to that list?

I remember having to avoid certain spots on the ground when I was a kid.

Looking back, I have to appreciate how dedicated OCD was in its infiltration. It's like a seed that plants itself in you when you're too young to know any better only to grow into a monstrosity in your later years.
My life would have been completely differently if I had been properly diagnosed with OCD at 16 and not just "i have some fears". Instead I was diagnosed at 29 lol

Totally relatable. I call OCD a transformer because of the way it latches onto new things I care about in my life. One day it could be relationship OCD and the next it can be harm OCD.
My OCD is encroaching into my otherwise pretty reasonable health concerns and muddying the water. Hate that

OCD is talented at dragging you into those time loops. What helps me is the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique: Name 5 things you see, 4 things you can touch/feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste. Pulls you out of the time loop and back to the present moment.

The scariest thing about OCD is that it controls your past, present and future. The past comes in timehops about the things you may or may not have done, the present fears messing things up in the moment and the future is fear that the present moment will become a time hop. How do I live like this?

I saw this quote during my in-patient therapy at McLean Hospital. It still rings in my head when I need that boost of motivation.

OCD is a debilitating disorder that ruins lives. The stigma and the way society downplays it makes it hard for people to reach out for help.

Having had an experience of severe OCD makes me feel more kinship with the folks with “scary” mental illnesses because OCD is way more like that than normies truly know

"Are my thoughts OCD? What if it's just a regular intrusive thought? How do I know what's OCD or not?"

This is what I call OCD about OCD (or meta OCD). Here's a golden rule of thumb gifted by my second therapist.

"If you have to wonder if it's OCD, it's OCD"
