It's confirmed: I've lost my dissertation funding. @universityofkansas.bsky.social

Students across the US lost FLAS fellowships to study foreign languages and fellowships to conduct dissertation abroad.

Contributes to the already precarious challenges to monthly sustenance and dissertation plans.
And now, since our Dean wrote this (www.jsonline.com/story/opinio...), we've all received letters informing us year 4 of our NRC/FLAS grants has been cancelled.

International & foreign language education is "not a priority of the administration."

Today's normalized authoritarianism: Email confirmation that year 4 of our Title VI European Studies grant (& all other NRC/FLAS $ @ @uwmadison.bsky.social) is being held up to ensure "resources are spent in accordance with the President’s priorities & the Department’s statutory responsibilities"
Yes, we’re literally about to zero out funding for every Title VI area studies center at every university in the country, along with FLAS fellowship funding. A generation of human capital that feeds into our diplomatic & intelligence corps that will simply not exist. National security madness.
Another angle to this. They've defunded the university language programs their diplomatic corps come from or go to to upskill. They can't even build back this expertise in the future even if they want to.

Yesterday, when the shooter was an imagined trans Muslim woke leftist, it was WAR.

Today, when the shooter turns out to be a young, gun-toting white male and the son of a sheriff, it’s “pray.”

Protestors in Nepal overthrew the government in less than 48 hours due to corruption. They refused a curfew, spread protests across all cities, fought police in roaming street battles, burnt down politicians' houses, stole military weapons, stormed the parliament & burnt it, forced the PM to resign.

It's quite revealing that the group of people who pride themselves on "modernity" and "inclusivity" ensured that one of more prominent genocides of the contemporary was orchestrated and led to it's complete manifestation.
The writer Richard Hanania once said that he hated bespoke pronouns “more than genocide”, according to www.nytimes.com/2025/04/14/o...

It feels revealing that this position is so hard for me to accept. Do we properly understand how threatened some people feel by modernism and inclusivity?

What is the problem here?
“.. judging only from price action, we are suddenly witnessing a comprehensive turn away from US assets (stocks, USTs, corporate credit and the dollar). this is the single most important theme to monitor over coming weeks. .. for the moment capital is flowing out of the US.”

If only they'd realize how they continue to enable fascism rather than scapegoating its manifestation.

I suppose genocide is their trademark.

Considering racism is built into the structure of everyday ecologies, we reviewed Environmental Psychology journals (JEvP + E&B) to interrogate how the discipline (dis)engages with racism.

We discuss a racism-conscious & racism-centering approach to Environmental Psychology.
In a new JEvP article, we present findings from a critical review asking whether the discipline of Environmental Psychology (EP) can serve as a useful site for the psychological study of structural racism. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... 🧵 (1/6)
