Please warn pet owners if you prescribe chewable apoquel to a dog and they have a cat in the home too! There are reports of cats getting into these pork flavored tablets and resulting in severe illness (AKI, neurotoxicity, hypotension) and death. Even a few tablets can be a major issue #VetSky

My daughter got "Good Dog, Carl" for her first birthday. I started reading it to her, and then promptly had to explain to her that grapes are nephrotoxic to dogs! Don't let your kids feed the dog grapes! #vetneph

Salt for thought: This may be relevant in our veterinary patients too, where slower correction means prolonged hospitalization times - associated increased cost to pet owners can lead to worse outcomes and patient mortality.
Slow correction of hypernatremia is associated with better survival but increased risk of discharge to hospice 🤔

slow correction was associated w/ lower in-hospital mortality (aOR 0.63) but higher odds of d/c to hospice (aOR 1.57) or nursing facilities (aOR 1.60)

Sodium and water balance question! #vetsky #askrenal

We had a dog with stage 3, proteinuric CKD come in for an acute worsening of azotemia. The dog's Na historically had been normal, around 140-145. When he presented the Na was 151 and Cr 6.5, up from 3.9 in June.
