Honestly one of the many things that surpises me about Republicans is just how gleely and smugly they will admit the cities of their beloved country suck.
They think of “urban” as synonymous with Black and that explains a good deal of the invalidation of urban spaces as “real America”

i think this is what drives me nuts. people talk about how, say, the UN was founded by "starry eyed idealists" who didn't understand "reality." the truth is that the UN was founded by those who had just fought and *won* the bloodiest war in human history.

What is exactly the purpose of you posting this clip out of context?;
Hillary Clinton: "More people were deported under my husband and Barack Obama without killing American citizens and without putting children into detention camps than were in the first Trump term or this first year of Trump's second term."

Yeah this also isn't exactly what it sounds like. The vast majority of deportations done under Clinton and Obama were catching people at the border. It wasn't storming into churches and deporting grandma's who have been here for 30 years with no record.

Compare it to the amount of venom McBride had to face for being "Zionist" and yeah
Haven't paid much attention to the Maine Dem primary lately, but I do feel like I've been living in an alternate reality seeing the race essentially un-changed by Platner's Nazi tat revelation and weak explanation.

And Hunter's must-read feed since last night serves to remind me that I'm not crazy.
Dear Bluesky, I like to think of
myself as Your Jewish Friend. Let me be clear to you, the totenkopf tattoo thing is horrible. This shouldn't even be a question.

Call me a carceral urbanist but I think that you should have to go to jail if you kill an entire family with your car.

Further, we should hold elderly drivers in particular responsible for the their actions because we need to create a deterrence effect to encourage people to stop driving.

This is partly true. But I’d add it’s because unionists, abolitionists, and black people have been excluded from the accepted narrative on southern culture. There are probably 500 people who know who Robert E Lee is for every person who has even heard the name “David Farragut” once in their lives.
I know I'm on a tear with this, but the white Southern culture - which is my heritage - is like this because at their core they know they have nothing to be proud of, but they've been taught to be the most proud, their whole lives
"White homeowners dress in period garb, open their homes to visitors and narrate a version of the past that foregrounds elegance, lineage and architectural beauty while relegating slavery to euphemism or omission."

you may have a list of specific things you try not to buy because you've heard they're detrimental or whatever - which, incidentally, makes zero difference to marketing/business-but no one actually does this

Okay I feel like I’m seeing an increasing number of businesses and events here in the Twin Cities require masks. Is it just me or is this a growing thing

I think Fantasy Europe gets unfairly maligned as the “safe” and “boring” RPG setting when Europe can get real weird and dangerous if you let it.
I‘d also argue Fantasy being “Europe” makes it unique in that it’s actually somewhat “Europe” and not like a Ren Faire theme park ride type thing.
