Thank you to President Putin!

President Putin responds to President Trump not winning the Nobel Peace Prize:

“This award lost credibility. The committee discussed the prize for people who have done nothing for the world.”

“He solves complex problems, crises that last for decades.”

Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing
Dear President Obama,
I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.
Love,
Ms Rachel

Oh look, Maple Trump is at it again with his copy-cat racial hate-mongering!

Your right to citizenship and belonging is reduced to "birth tourism" just like Danielle Smith reduced the human right to basic healthcare as "healthcare tourism". This is the dehumanization of People of Colour.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner is right.

We must end birth tourism, and restore the value and integrity of Canadian citizenship.

Facts That will Blow Your Mind · Follow

In Finland, education is completely free for all students. During primary school, children receive free textbooks, meals, and health and social support.
Tablets are provided from third grade onwards, while older students use laptops. School meals are also free and adapted to different needs – there are special meals for vegetarians, as well as gluten- and lactose-free options.
Parents do not have to pay additional fees, and no donations or contributions for field trips are requested. The entire cost is borne by the state. This investment in education is considered essential for the country's future, as a well-educated society forms the basis for a strong economy, a functioning healthcare system, and social justice.

Israel insists that the only path to peace is for Israel to keep at least half of Gaza under forced military occupation, when we all know the only path to peace is to give them their freedom, their land, their sovereignty, and their national identity back, then leave them the fuck alone!

Ceasefire Updates

Under the plan the Israeli Cabinet approved late on Thursday evening, the Israeli military will retain control of roughly 53% of Gaza and redeploy to the “yellow line” mapped in the Trump plan, with a ceasefire beginning within 24 hours of the cabinet meeting. Bedrosian said a 72-hour period will follow for the release and repatriation of all Israeli hostages, living and deceased, while humanitarian aid—including food, medicine, and fuel—enters Gaza under coordination with international organizations and Egypt, calling the deal a historic step mediated by Qatar, the United States, Egypt, and Turkey.

The crux of this issue is that public education relies on only ONE source of funding: the public. When public education is in a funding crisis, that money needs to stay in the system.

Teachers protecting public education

Had teachers accepted the offered memorandum of understanding, they would have been complicit in eroding public education in Alberta. Instead, they have chosen to sacrifice their paycheques and the financial welfare of their families to preserve and protect public education.

Public education is the foundation of our democracy. It alone ensures that all children are given an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential. However, severely under-funding public education while dramatically increasing taxpayer dollars to private education, which thrives on being exclusionary, is creating two-tiered education in our province. Two-tiered education will ultimately lead to a two-tiered society, which inevitably will weaken, or even destroy, our democracy.

White Rose Resistance

"A Rutgers University professor who taught a course on anti-fascism was blocked from leaving the US for Spain on Wednesday night, according to media reports, hours after Donald Trump hosted a White House roundtable highlighting the impact of antifa – or 'anti-fascist' – far-left activists.

"Mark Bray, an historian who published the 2017 book Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, and has taught courses on anti-fascism at the New Jersey university, was attempting to board a plane at Newark airport bound for Europe when he was informed at the boarding gate that the reservations for him and his family had been cancelled.

"The professor, nicknamed 'Dr Antifa' by a group of students, had said he was moving to Europe after receiving death threats. Turning Point USA activists have claimed he is a “financier” for the leftwing movement."

Gazans are celebrating and rejoicing that Israel is "killing fewer of them" during the ceasefire announcement, and that a ceasefire is on the horizon!

But I remember last time this happened, when they were mocked and scorned then hundreds were killed DURING the ceasefire and thousands after.

'ALL OF THE GAZA STRIP IS HAPPY'

"Thank God for the ceasefire, the end of bloodshed and killing," said Abdul Majeed Abd Rabbo in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. "lI am not the only one happy, all of the Gaza Strip is happy, all the Arab people, all of the world is happy with the ceasefire and the end of bloodshed."

Einav Zaugauker, whose son Matan is one of the last hostages, rejoiced in Tel Aviv's so-called Hostages Square, where families of those seized in the Hamas attack that triggered the war two years ago have long assembled.

"I can't breathe, I can't breathe, I can't explain what I'm feeling ... it's crazy," she said, speaking in the red glow of a celebratory flare.

In Gaza, Israeli strikes and shooting continued on Thursday before the official start of the ceasefire, but at a slower pace than in recent weeks when Israel was conducting one of its biggest offensives of the war.

The Gaza health ministry said at least three Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire during the day on Thursday after reporting nine killed in the previous 24 hours, far fewer than the scores killed daily in recent weeks. Aviva Klompas

The class size limit is the important guarantee to maintain hiring into the future, and guaranteeing a future for our kids is what this whole strike is about.

When the government encourages private school enrolment through the chronic underfunding and overcrowding of the public school system, and the continual undermining of public educators, that takes away "choice" and quality of education for all.

I'll repeat it as many times as it takes to get through. The province with the LOWEST per student public education funding is the ONLY province which funds the majority costs (at least 70%) of the operation AND construction of private schools.

An estimated 25% of property tax in Edmonton goes directly to the Alberta government for EDUCATION, in 2025, and the city has no control over how it's spent.

Smith will do anything to get out of funding public education. Tim Cartmell wants to enable her.

Tim Cartmell believes the UCP doesn’t owe us anything. Remember this as the teachers strike and Smith doesn't pay her city taxes.

Photo/Video
“They (UCP) don’t owe us (Edmontonians) anything. They used to benevolently give it to us, they've stopped,' he said Wednesday,
Councillor Cartmell

This is a real quote from a real Edmonton City Councillor in the Edmonton Journal defending her government not paying their property taxes to Edmonton.

She flies to Maralago to sell us out to Trump. He runs to the Legislature to sellout Edmontonians to her. Your property tax bill includes municipal taxes, collected by the City to pay for City services, and provincial education taxes, which the City collects on behalf of the Province to fund public and separate schools.

These two taxes change at different rates each year, and are added together to make up the total tax amount property owners must pay.

A typical detached home, assessed at $465,500, will pay $394 per month in property taxes in 2025. Roughly 75% of this amount—or $296—will help pay for City services, and the remaining 25%—or $98—will go to the Government of Alberta to support education.
