Just here for lunch 🥪
You're telling me there's a console I can buy where I miss out on many of the best games, pay more money and it runs Linux, too? Amazing proposition!

Lumines Arise doesn't have a Switch version? That seems almost criminal

Wonder how the "all political violence is bad" people are protesting today

Seems like the "fix" for unreliable downloads was just to break downloads entirely? Overcast just feels like an elaborate prank at this point…

Made the trek over to Walnut Creek to see The Woman in Black as I had only seen the 2012 movie so far. It was really good!

My guess would be the strategy was to wait until after the elections. If those results didn’t get the Republicans to cave, nothing really will, so I think, unlike a lot of Democrat decisions, you can actually rationalize this one?
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I don’t think it’s good to sell some romanticized fiction of “Europe” to the rest of the world.

For example: In Germany, busses are not free and people go to actual jail if they’re caught not paying multiple times.

Predator: Badlands is a fun time, it even has a Baby Yoda.

A bit wild that SF's fragmented transit system has lead to a situation where you need to pay like $3 to use the existing station restrooms if you happen to take Muni instead of BART.

People will be mad at me for saying this, but I think we have to do it. Nothing is more important for the future of this country, and indeed humanity, than the app that makes you schizophrenic and helps you forget how to learn. The juice is worth the squeeze.
BREAKING: OpenAI is requesting US government support to help guarantee financing for the massive investments in AI chips and data centers it needs for expansion, per Bloomberg.

Nintendo shipped a mobile app for their store which coincidentally has a feature that shows played games all the way back to the Wii U.

We must have reached the point where he could ask for a tax break in order to *not* endorse someone, right?
Another big endorsement for Andrew Cuomo. And it only cost $959 million in tax breaks.

My TikTok feed is almost exclusively either people posting extremely long TSA lines or saying that there were no/normal lines.

Also one with a very long line at JFK but it is impossible to say whether that is just normal or not since JFK is always awful

Enjoying Outer Worlds 2 quite a bit, but the combat encounters are weirdly rigidly scripted for a game that generally tries to offer many approaches. It has happened to me multiple times now that a fight got out of hand because I didn’t kill enemies in the “correct” order the game wanted.

Funny how the vibe of SF freeway billboard ads slightly starts to shift. AIs to detect deep fakes and for reviewing AI generated code. They sold the disease, now they're attempting to sell the cure.

alex blechman: in my post i invented tech companies misunderstanding what the torment nexus is as a cautionary tale

tech company employee: at long last, i have misunderstood the Torment Nexus from classic Alex Blechman tweet "Don't misunderstand what the torment nexus is"
"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

Frankenstein was pretty good, not quite great.

But I'm glad that I have seen it on a proper cinema screen.

The Winchester Mystery House Halloween event was fairly underwhelming this year. It felt like they had maybe 10 scare actors for the entire event? I didn't go last year, but I remember 2023 being quite good.

men will become VP of something they have absolutely no clue about instead of going to therapy
I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.
