Nice!

For the longest time, we were on the edge of the neighborhood and would only get 2-3 kids every year... we moved into the middle of the same neighborhood and now get closer to 75-100!

We love it, especially now that our youngest is old enough to just go out with her friends...

We're the small-bags-filled-with-treats people.

My wife and kids meticulously put together dozens of these cute little bags each year, then I get all the credit as the person handing them out (when I'm not trying to scare the crap outta the older kids).

After we get rid of ICE in Portland, let's work on turning that Ritz-Carlton back into a food cart pod.

Who knew we'd have ICE to thank for bringing Portland back?

I don't know about other locals, but I feel like we've been in a funk since the last time this dude was in power... really hopeful that might be ending.

The US federal attack on Portland has resulted in the best advertisement for a city that I have ever seen. Round-the-clock joy, community solidarity and silliness that much of the West has lost and longs for.

Happy Columbus Day.

(first two paragraphs of Zinn's A People's History of the United States)
Text reads:

Arawak men and women, naked, tawny, and full of wonder, emerged from their village onto the island's beached and swam out to get a closer look at the strange big boat. When Columbus and his sailors came ashore, carrying swords, speaking oddly, the Arawaks ran to greet them, brought them food, water, gifts. He late wrote of this in his log:

They ... brought us parrots and balls of cotton and spears and many other things, which they exchanged for the glass beads and hawks' bells. They willingly traded everything they owned. ... They were well-built, with good bodies and handsome features. ... They do not bear arms, and do not know them, for I showed them a sword, they took it by the edge and cut themselves out of ignorance. They have no iron. Their spears are made of cane. ... They would make fine servants. ... With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.

It's a shame we got rid of all our sewers right before the rainy season.

Nice! What tool(s) do you use for building those?

Oh man... I wonder what it would take to stream something like an immersive NBA courtside seat experience?

World Naked Bike Ride organizers and other local groups are getting on bikes in the buff to protest the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in South Portland. The demonstration is planned for Sunday Oct 12 at 2:30 pm; now we know the starting spot is Oregon Convention Center Plaza.

If you’ve never been to a big protest like No Kings before: It feels great to be part of a big gathering of people who want to change things. It sparks joy, and resolve for the long fight ahead. Sometimes there are dance parties. You could be the one who starts the dance party! Just show up!

If you can show up on October 18, you should. The country is shifting. The battleship is turning. And while, yes, usually mass street protests don't do much, there are exceptions.

And sometimes those exceptions go down in history.

Portland has reclaimed the frog...

maybe we can reclaim America next!

In the early days of the Alt-Right I'd refer to them as the Frog Squad in my newsletter because of how they'd stolen Pepe the Frog cartoons for their memes.

I'm absolutely delighted that Portland is reclaiming the frog. It's a full circle moment.

Things are happening at Portland's ICE facility tonight.

lol Yeah, I definitely felt like it broke a weird tension just by acknowledging it and moving on.

More like "please stop talking to me."

Let me know when you're arriving so we can coordinate safe passage with the local head of the highly-organized and centralized Portland Antifa division and get you through the fires and war zone. Make sure to piss before you get here, since we don't have sewers any longer.

It IS refreshing to see that there's still some sanity somewhere in the world.

Not here, of course.

But somewhere...

I had my first ever randomly-seated-next-to-a-celebrity experience on my flight this morning... Pretty cool end to this latest DC visit.

Wasn't too bad... Already back in the queue for landing.

Hanging out above LAX...

Apparently they've closed it off to new arrivals, no reason given. So we're circling until they either let us land or decide to divert us to another airport.

Fun way to end what was already a long, cross-country flight.
