I still think the internet is the best comp for AI. It was a bubble that popped, but the underlying tech turned out to be real. It enabled a bunch of psychosis and slop, but also some genuinely cool stuff. Massive labor market disruptions, but employment levels look about the same.

It's actually kind of striking how these arguments are stupid and don't matter because they don't have any predictive power, and if the prediction is "These systems can't do knowledge work", then those predictions are simply wrong.

I really wish we had a well funded, power critical fourth estate interested in investigating the source of this clearly coordinated effort by payment processors.

Like, we keep seeing the impact of it, but I really want to know the "who" and the "why" beyond nebulous surveillance/puritanism forces.

They are not being controlled by workers in the Phillipines... workers in the Philippines occasionally provide a label or piece of high level information like "yes youre good to proceed" in difficult scenarios. They never drive the cars.

And, on top of all this, actively hate and try to drive away anyone who is well connected to what is happening, does have insider tips, is capable of basic reasoning, values the truth over their immediate feelings, and admits when they don't know. They literally send such people death threats.
BlueSky is fundamentally a low information network full of people who are not well connected to what is happening, do not have insider tips, are largely not capable of basic reasoning, do not value the truth over their immediate feelings, and habitually confabulate rather than admit they don't know.
The person trying to argue 50% of Americans are below the poverty line doing so while also failing to accurately perform basic math is basically bluesky.txt

If your Roomba occasionally gets stuck behind a chair and requires you to get it unstuck, did iRobot lie to you about it being an "autonomous" vacuum cleaner?

What if you have to sometimes untangle string from its brush?

Does that mean your vacuum doesn't clean "autonomously"?

waymos are great, this headline is wrong, it's weird and disturbing that so many people actively want to believe the technology that reduces car deaths is fake, and bluesky should make it so full-screen link previews don't show headlines

My respect for these two has dropped to zero. There were zero instances in the episode where Rob mansplained to them or steamrolled them. Zero. He politely offered a summary of a mainstream understanding of LLMs so that they could explain why they disagreed, and they read this as an attack.

Any other famous pedophiles going to be there? Looking forward to doing a bunch of pedophile stuff btw.
OK, so Musk was planning to go to Epstein's island, but it's not like he went there with the intent to go to a wild party or something, it was probably just some business. Excuse me, an email just came in.

*Reads:* "What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?"

I don't think current AI is conscious or worthy of moral standing, but there's no reason to suppose it can't be. And it worries me that the exact people generally most concern with rights for other conscious beings are most likely to deny the possibility of machine consciousness.
