This week’s column on the rise and normalisation of racism in both social and political discourse, and why that’s not just a right problem. The political establishment (and Labour in particular), is entirely absent or reckless when it comes to tackling racism, and how it is linked to immigration.

Robert Sapolsky points out people generally aren't opposed to violence, they are opposed to the out-groups violence. Same here, Farage is racist but part of the English nationalist in-group so his racism isn't as bad as it would be if he was part of an out-group.

Honestly feel like Labour on immigration is a political and moral crisis with potentially scary consequences
Worth saying that despite asking for more than 12 hours we’ve had nothing back from Labour on this
A Conservative MP tipped as a future party leader has been condemned for saying large numbers of legally settled families must be deported, in order to ensure the UK is mostly “culturally coherent”.

The Labour government's response to a summer of open racism, including physical attacks and the demonisation of some of its own Cabinet, has been to hide. 'Anti-racism' is something you actually have to do, not something you are. Seriously, why can't people like this hear themselves?
Ouch. I’m talking about a general approach, not a single instance. And I think you’ll find, as a generalisation admittedly, that Labour supporters are anti-racism.
