I feel like in the age of AI, having students complete an annotated bibliography for an English course is a bit pointless. I’m interested to find out what others think.

Does anyone have advice on how to reassure #college students currently in #education programs? They know the dept of ed is gone, they’re stressed about being able to get loans to finish their degree or having jobs available later. And I have no idea what to tell them 😞 #highered

The most valuable insights I’ve had into autism have come from autistic people. Some were specialists, some were writers, some were doctors and some weren’t. Some were spoken on a stage and made people laugh. Others were mumbled by a person in crisis staring at the carpet. All of them were autistic.

Apologies if this sounds controversial, but I really struggle with listening to neurotypical disability professionals training staff about #neurodiversity.

It is nearly always skewed negatively in some way - even when they are trying very hard not to. #disabilities

If there was ever a time for a nationwide walkout of public school teachers, now is that time.

When schools lose special education funding and the supports and staff students need to be successful in schools, teachers’ jobs will get 2000% harder 😞 #education #deptofeducation #teachers

Reasons why we need more #neurodivergent people working in #education:
The neurotypical instinct to just throw all the “weird” kids together, assuming they’ll get along and be friends - not taking into account how their individual quirks may actually grate on each other and be problematic.

After the Supreme Court ended affirmative action in 2023, the 2024-25 academic year was seen as a kind of test: What effect would the decision have on freshman classes? While it’s still early to draw definitive conclusions, here's what our reporters found: nyti.ms/3C9COeR

I don't know if this is an autistic-brain thing, but one of the thing that really freaks me out about the current reality is that I really deeply and fundamentally don't understand why anyone would ever choose cruelty over problem-solving.

I wonder if I’m the only person who is expecting TRIO to disappear… Those programs serve all of the people who the incoming administration seems to view as a “waste” 😕 Even if the DOE stays, funding for programs can be cut a lot more easily

I'm quite enjoying the genre of autism research that's just checking what autistic people say is happening for us, and then putting it in a peer-reviewed journal.

Like, it sounds trivial, but this is genuinely how a lot of the most useful research on things that actually matter to us is happening.

Autism is NOT a "trend." Autistic people have always been here. So, "If the spotlight leaves neurodiversity, autism will not disappear. Ultimately, #neurodiversity is about accepting people who have often been outcasts in the community & creating belonging."

The disability community is the the largest minority group in the country and often the most ignored. It’s also the only minority group you can join at any time. You can become disabled and most likely will with age. To care about the disability community is to care about your inevitable future.
